Custom World Dimensions
« on: November 30, 2010, 06:57:00 am »

I was wondering if there was a way to use custom world dimensions so that I could make an outputted world map's dimensions to be exactly or all most 1920x1080?

Are you talking about regions or blocks or tiles (or whatever; those smallest pieces)?

If you want to create a world which written to an image file is 1920*1080 you need to know your tilesets height and width. Then you do some maths.

I mean the right after you create a new world and you can output a world map. I want that map to be 1920x1080. So I would have to set the generated world to match the ratio and size.

Why in Armok's name would you want a map THAT huge?

Short answer: no. 257 x 257 is the largest available map size in DF.

I assume you mean pixels and not tiles? If you simply want the screen size like that, it's explained on the wiki. Dunno if you can make a world that small though.

I am not talking about gameplay... I am talking about the map that is outputted from the game. I what that outputted map to be 1920x1080. So the world would have to be set to a custom value between 257 and 65. can you set the world size to custom values like 42 x 44? or are only the preset values an option?

what I did was take the background on the main site and crop it down to my screen dimensions.

That would work but I kinda wanted it to look like a full generated world other than just a piece of one.

I tried generating a world 120x67 by replacing the line [DIM:65:65] with [DIM:120:67] into the world_gen.txt file. It generated a 65x65 world, so worlds probably need to be set at the options given.
I checked, I did save the parameters.

If you created a 129x65 world with a 14x16 tile set, that might get you close.

Or you could use a graphics editing program such as Gimp.
In Gimp, goto Image->Scale Image
Click on the chain binding width to the height.
Enter the values you want (1920 for width, 1080 for height)
Click on Scale button.
Profit.

You can only use the numbers that the default sizes use.

They don't necessarily have to be square worlds, though.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
