I'm not too keen on infecting via body fluids- I voted parasite for the chance to be a bit different from regular zombies and I'm not convinced fluid transmission makes any real sense for centralized parasites. Still I'm happy with the rest, it's a real weakness but also isn't too crippling and will be difficult for survivors to exploit.

While I do want a slightly different zombie I'm sticking to the classics for the rest of my suggestions- remove rebellious so people have no chance to resist and weak because zombies should be fairly strong. Alternatively we could go a faster and smarter route which would be my second choice.

I think the parasite should be able to manipulate the thoughts of the person, so that they want to save their skins and not die for at least the incubation period.

People generally tend to avoid dying, so I don't think that's necessary at least until people begin to recognise symptoms of infection (actually do we have any right now? Could we get some for some mutation points?). Still could be good as a way to have a fair incubation period without making it easy to combat.

Well, I was thinking it would be useful because you could convince them they don't have the infection, and thus won't order their friends to kill them. May not be needed early, but it would really really help in the later stages.

You have quite a few symptoms of infection right now. Your larval transmission vector is recognized and fought by the targets immune system. While this is rarely effective in fighting off your parasites, the target will often experience fevers, chills, nausea, and other general symptoms of illness. Since this attack against the immune system is necessary to obtain control, it can be fairly expensive to suppress it or work around it.

After you've obtained control, the symptoms are also fairly obvious - while you can suppress the bodies immune response to you, your general weakness, slowness, jerky movements (especially those points in spastic), aggressive nature, etc. etc. are all fairly easy to notice and identify.

Note that some mutations may have unintended side effects, such as more obvious symptoms (say, a mutation that creates "spore burst growths" on the body that allow the parasite to spread through the air in large numbers). Other symptom like mutations (like vomiting and bleeding) may allow for easier transmission vectors while making you more noticeable. Since you are parasitic and not viral, these are generally less effective however.

Note that with mutations it is impossible to not only subdue those symptoms, but obtain a more subtle form of control until you have a secure hold over the target - like the heightened self-preservation symptoms listed above.

You might also want to consider "carrier" parasites who only deal in this subtle form of control so as to better infiltrate enclaves or escape quarantines later on. It's a lot cheaper to let an unaware host control that sort of situation than to build up the necessary intellectual and physical capabilities of your parasite.

Right now your parasite is about this capable mentally:

"Spastically move towards and attack anything that moves like a target. Do not attack other emitting ally pheremone."

Attempting to avoid detection isn't really currently in its profile.

New Poll is up.
When we have 10+ votes, it will be closed.

Anyone who wants to propose a certain application of the four points, bold like above. If you want to support it, quote it. One with the most support when the poll closes wins!

It's like a double poll. :P

How much would a airborne vector or sleeper agents cost?

Very very lucky. Nice.

Anyway, I believe we should outbreak in Detroit.

Just a question: Do we get to choose our patient zero? If so, I vote for a hobo. Hobos act weird already, so it won't get noticed until the outbreak is too huge to handle.

I don't know how it is in Detroit, but in NYC people give a wide berth to these folks. It'd be hard to get within fluid range. I voted for San Francisco: patient zero = probably a stereotypical surfer dude.

Hmm. Good point.

Well, hobos don't shy away from other hobos. We could have a full on hobo zombie apocalypse.

A small town might make things easy in the short term, but if it's quarantined there are unlikely to be enough zombies to break the quarantine and there's unlikely to be enough movement of people that we have a chance to get out before it happens.

Since I live in the UK I only have a vague idea of the differences between the cities, could someone clarify a bit? I'm tempted to say NY because I expect there's a lot of international travel but maybe we should focus on a small scale zombie apocalypse and I'm sure the other places have advantages.
