Dwarves go to furthest away stockpile
« on: October 30, 2007, 02:43:00 am »

I noticed this kind of behavior before, but it seems to have gotten worse in the new version. If dwarves are ordered to pickup stone, for example, they'll ignore the stone stockpile right next to them and go pile up the stone on the other stockpile far far away.

Woodcutters also seem to start with the tree the most far away at the top left of all the trees you have selected.

I think this has to do with some low level code. It's just the way things are to keep it fast and such.

I wonder... I think this may be due to the stockpiles generating the hauling orders, so paths are calculated from the stockpiles, not from the rocks. Therefore I suppose that if a dwarf accepts a hauling order from your most remote stone stockpile, he will seek the closest stone to that stockpile, but won't check if another stockpile is closer to that stone.

If this is the case dwarves shouldn't completely ignore any stockpile, but it will come down to which stockpile gets priority to send orders.
