Mind-Blowing symbolism in artifacts
« on: November 29, 2010, 04:10:14 pm »

Ok, so I had an artifact today blow my mind. Usually the descriptions are pretty ho-hum, but the deep symbolism of this struck me as extra awesome.

It was created by a dwarf who had spent the last year or so slaving away at a smelter turning bituminous coal into coke.

Code: [Select]
Rodimmad, "Wadereined", a bituminous coal mechanisms
This is a bituminous coal mechanisms. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with bituminous coal. This object menaces with spikes of bituminous coal. On the item is an image of a blazing sun in bituminous coal.

I'd say put this mechanism to use and watch it explode in bituminous colours. Then, watch your dwarves turn into bituminous coal themselves!

That actually may be very possible, artifacts have been known in previous versions to never be destroyed on fire, it should easily burn forever with a little prompting by ma... ma... Magma

I think we've reached a consensus here.

We could involve goblins.

Another bit of symbolism: Bituminous coal is represented by ☼, both before and after digging it out. Suns are also represented by a ☼.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

How exactly is this a bad thing? Especially if we put the 'summoning point' on the bottom of a 10-z deep magma reservoir.
