Really? Celtic elves falling from the sky in chunks of !!Fun!!?

The Fae are a diverse sort.

Actually I would love for this game to have some more. It is that sort of deadly whimsy I love (Deadly Whimsy is probably the best term I can come up with)

Hmmm... What if some metals from meteorites could be used to forge living, talking weapons? I can just imagine running around in adventure mode with a talking sword.

I've been told never to say anything unless I have something nice to say, but can we lock this topic and kill anyone who ever mentions it again?

Meteorites are all well and good. Falling !!FUN!! is fine. But little people with antennae, ANOTHER magical metal of wibbly-wibble and irritating gimmicks out of a bad 80s point-and-click? Really?

Come on, Forumites, we're better than this.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I wasn't suggesting a "magic" metal, but any metal which could survive orbital impact would be vair dense.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor#Meteor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteorite

most (about 86%) are silicates, 8% igneous, 5% iron, story-iron 1%.

so random function. silicates-->sand-like-->glass-like when entering atmosphere.

please correct me in the previous line.

edit: also organic stuff... amino acids... origins for collossi anyone?

Look at the options we have for other shit. Now imagine options for meteor(ite)s:

Size weighting
Frequency
Contents

It shouldn't be too hard to have a meteors.txt which has a list of rock types (including ores) that a meteor can be with a number of possibilities included. Sufficiently large meteors of layer materials may have ores in them as normal.

And demon meteors or alien meteors would be cool, but definitely a txt option in meteors.txt that lets you choose: Aliens, Demons, Wierd, Magical, None for creatures spawned by meteors. Wierd would be some procedurally generated effect other than Aliens. Magical would be especially important once magic gets in. With multiple choices, your results may have aspects of both/all.

When I said aliens, I was thinking of things like This. I was also thinking they should change the surrounding similar to how savagery and evil/good already do. Like in that story i linked to, except instead of eventually crumbling into dust, things just get monstrous.

Plenty of religions have their sacred meteorites. The Black Stone in the Islamic Kaaba at Mecca is one such stone, visiting it is the key point of the pilgrimage. The Roman Emperor Heliogabalus castrated himself to join the cult of a meteorite that looked like Diana, Goddess of the Hunt. There's quite a few Hindu ones as well. This might work well in the Religions and Temples thread.
