Good news is you're safe for at least two years, Biden's never gonna let it pass and it's unlikely that the Reps will get enough people to beat his veto.

Other good news is that there's by far no majority support for banning abortion, so the Reps may have shot themselves in the foot with that. Might be the only good to come out of that shitty mess.

After that though? Good question. Might be an idea to get some sort of bail plan ready.

More than that. MTG's proposal has no support even from the GOP. She's one of the unhinged lunatics that nobody wants to work with. That wouldn't pass even in a GOP supermajority.


This is a thing done on both sides of the aisle. It is very common to push bills that you know have zero chance of passing because it lets you pander to the base without facing serious consequences - usually anybody bothered by the bill merely existing isn't on your side anyway. It is far from unheard of to make your bills more rigid and extreme precisely to be sure it won't come close to passing, entirely so you can push "I tried, but they won't let me" rather than "I tried, but it turns out absolutely nobody agrees with me" - very few people actually read the details of failed bills, but will notice if a proposal languishes in debate for weeks before dying in committee.

I suppose it's also a bit hard to scapegoat a group once you've done everything you can to destroy them, and the GOP's got nothing going for them except scapegoating.
