Well, that's one more step down. We won't be closing on our new house until the end of the month but we just signed our intent to vacate forms so I guess we'll be out of this shithole one way or another. I don't think I'll be happy or not terrified until closing happens and the landlord fucks off with however much of our money they want to try and screw us out of.

This fall, Russia wil test a new thermonuclear weapon.
It's a nuclear powered underwater drone with a 2 megaton yield, that can devastate coastal regions.

This kind of weapon does not fall under the restriction of the very last nuclear weapons treaty that is still standing between the US and Russia, which limits the number of nuclear missiles and bombs the nations are allowed to have to 1550.

The treaty ends februari 2021.  Russia has expressed the wish to renew it but Trump does not want to hear of it unless China also joins the treaty.  Experts fear there is not enough time to form a new treaty with China before the treaty ends.

It looks like in februari 2021, for the first time in 50 years the world will be without nuclear disarmament and control treaty.

What's stupid is that China, by deliberate choice, has far fewer than 1550 atomic warheads. They've always maintained that their atomic arsenal is purely a defensive deterrent , and have deliberately kept their arsenal too small for an effective first strike to reinforce this.

For a treaty with China to have any effect, you would need to set the warhead limit much, much lower.

No reason really for China not to sign up to the treaty unless they intend to embark upon a highly ambitious nuclear stockpiling program. It's greatly in their interest if the USA puts limits on their stockpile whilst they themselves maintain their own status quo

Did Biden's taunting about him not being racist enough towards China get to him? That's kind of hilarious, if you ignore the consequences.

It's not about getting anything meaningful done, it's about saying China.

Pretty much a summary of this entire presidency.

Speaking of China, tensions over the border with India are increasing rapidly. Both India and China are sending thousands of troops into the Himalayas.
International observers warn that this could easily escalate into war between the two nations.
China's ally Pakistan is said to also be sending troops to the border.

He already did. He tweeted that he had talked with president Modi about it, and that Modi was not very happy.
President Modi came with a statement much later that Trump is full of shit and that they didn't speak at all.
