Last night I was in the kitchen and my housemate's cat came in and started growling at me.
Like, meowing loudly, then growling, real angry-like, and then she jumped on a chair and resumed growling, even hissing once or twice. I'm bewildered by this, thinking maybe there was a cat at the back door hassling her or something, but she's staring at me throughout. Now, sure, I do occasionally annoy the absolute shit out of this cat with my overabundance of affection, but I hadn't even seen her in a while - I was busy washing the dishes, and believe me there were quite a lot of them and I'd been there for some time.
My first thought was demonic possession. My second, more terrifying thought, was that she was being overwhelmed by acute pain from some sickness or internal injury or other. This was a horrifying thought on two levels: first, that the poor cat was suffering, and second, that I'd doubtless get the blame for it if she didn't recover.
In the end I just went to the cupboard, moving very carefully and keeping an eye on this psychotic growling cat lest she decided to lunge at me from her vantage point on the chair, retrieved the bag of her food and gave it a quick shake before sidling over to dump a handful of the stuff in her bowl.
She appeared sort of nonplussed for a moment, but after that moment she hopped down and went over for a snack.
Part of me wonders if this was her plan all along... she's never tried a friggin' standover routine as a means to get a second dinner before, though. o_o
