We do not discuss the forbidden practice of Dim Mak.

As for Gandhi, eh... At least he wasn't a fucking kaffir.

Eep! :O

Isn't that literally the South African version of the n word?
Yes, but it's also a few other things, which serves to muddle what exactly he was referring to when using it.

Kaffir is actually a type of lime
Ergo, Gandhi wasn't a limey?

Huh guess I can be thankful that racist Americans stuck to unambiguous terms.

Yeah, such as "spade", "chink", and... fuck, I'm forgetting a good one, I know it.  My lexicon of ambiguous racist slurs isn't up to snuff.

I think Moon Cricket is the best slur ever and it should be applicable to everyone so fights sound hilarious.

Huh.  I know I see Alpha Centauri references in everything, but I wonder if the bit where Space-Ghandi (Lal) clones his dead wife, specifically to remarry her, refers to that.  It's the only creepy thing he does, particularly compared to the other faction leaders.

Also dang I'm 12 years too late.  That's okay, conquering the world sounds like a lot of responsibility.
It's not creepy in context because he realises the clone is not his wife and is her own person, letting her get on with her life. Lal was just a cool dude all round and probably would have gone through the grieving process normally if he wasn't forced to take up leadership of 1/7th of the human species or experience hundreds of years of technological progress

Yeah.  At the time I assumed he waited for her to grow up to ~21 or so, which I think was the intention - he talks about loving her again perhaps, someday, not ASAP.
Still a bit creepy since he'd be 100-something, but still a better love story than Twilight.

I guess he does represent a vestige of old-world humanity amidst well-meaning transhumanists.  Which, like...  is arguably a poor survival strategy on Alpha Centauri, but his victory is probably the nicest ending for the people.

I think Lal is not just old world status quo in space. Lal recognised the status quo failed and learns from Earth's mistakes. It's a shame because while Lal gets treated as a milquetoast bureaucrat he's anything but. Ironically I get that he and Santiago don't get along well, one prioritises survival whilst the other wants survival to not sacrifice too many reasons worth living for, but it's odd cos Lal adapts and survives the mind worms whilst Santiago doesn't and does not survive anyways ~o.o~

Is it pronounced milk-uh-toast, milky-toast or completely different?

Milk-toast. They just write it in a fancy way because a solid "k" is much too harsh on the eyes.
