We saw the shredded and desiccated remains of a chipmunk out in the parking lot while doing laps at work. I, uh, do not handle dead things well. At all. There was a lot of flinching.

Carcasses do a damn good job of jumping out and surprising you. They're always where they shouldn't be and they're always just sort of grotesque mockeries of the living things they used to be, whether maimed or pristine. You never just 'do away with' the dead thing, with it's your dead thing or just 'the dead thing nearby.'

Shit, I could never work in any kind of emergency services or military role.

First time I saw a frozen corpse in The Long Dark it startled me. It was just huddled up in a beached ship's quarters, not doing anything. Still kinda spoopy.

This reminds me of the one time I was reminded by a toucan of the fact they're omnivorous. I was watching this one toucan hopping in between the branches of a tree. It gingerly approached this one sparrow nest and went full ARGUEBARGLE on the chicks, literally ripping them apart as they called their mother, which could only watch in horror.
