Is that for bone marrow transplants? I've seen that sort of thing on one medical drama or another.

You can harvest bone marrow for transplants in a similar fashion (and indeed I suspect THAT is what is taking place in the picture, as that syringe looks too big , but it's a good illustration). Normally -although it depends on what you're trying to do exactly-  you don't obtain the stem cells like that, however, but instead pick them up from peripheral blood via apheresis.
Anyway, that wasn't what I was doing, because this back water doesn't even have a proper hemato-oncology ward, let alone a bone marrow transplantation one.  I was sampling the bone marrow for diagnostic purposes.

I was using something similar to this:

This guy in this video is getting one done: https://youtu.be/8sItb6kgo68?t=5m21s

except as you can see I use a smaller needle for the sternum. Also I am not bald

BorkBorkGoesTheCode hasn't been online for days, and his last posts were really worrying.
I really hope he's okay. :-\

Don't suppose anyone knows him in places other than Bay12?

Eh, I just read those posts and that is a worry. All we can do is hope the guy is ok and that he wasn't typing that message as dad was going all "The Shining" and hacking through the door with an axe.

Speaking of medical stuff...

I'm having trouble sleeping. Hmm, I know what I'll do! I'll watch doctors (and sometimes not doctors) remove horrific things from people's bodies!

It's really cringey and disturbing to watch non-doctors try to do things like drain cysts, etc. often without wearing any gloves and never with any kind of disinfectant while the "patient" (victim) is hooting and hollering and obviously in a lot of pain.

That is if they realize they need to cut it, and don't just try to burst it through hand pressure.

/r/popping, would be my guess. That's generally the go-to place for all a person's cyst-drainage-footage needs.

I just search "cyst drainage" on Youtube and go browsing through the recommended/related sidebar.

I have been present in ONE. No matter what you think, the worst thing is not what you hear or see... it's what you smell.

Now I dont know if  I can compare it with something... or maybe I can. Have you ever smelled something dead and rotting?

Danm, that must have been a huge cyst if you fit inside it.

Not really, usually the animals I dissected weren't dead long enough to rot. But even when not rotten, cutting through the abdominal fleece to reach the guts releases terribly foul odours with most mammals. The shark head dissection beat them all though. Holy crap ammonia. The huge neurons were interesting though.

Nowadays though I hear the kids don't cut much, if at all. Nearly all dissections have been replaced with virtual dissections (for biology studies at least, I'm sure the veterinarian studies still get to cut real animals, can't have a vet puking and fainting all over their job because they weren't accustomed to the gore in their studies).

I think it's mostly because there isn't that much to be learned from it that can't be read from books. I did dissect a herring in high school, and the teacher dissected a pig's heart, but they were more along the lines of demonstrations of what we've learned than an actual learning experiences. We also looked at thin onion slices under a microscope to see the cells, but most vegetables aren't particularly gruesome to cut up.
