Shouldn't make you feel terrified. Car is a nice faraday's cage, one of the safer places to be in in a thunderstorm. That is, when it's properly grounded.
You're safer in a car than you'd be in some houses.

Cars aren't known for being grounded, though.

Tires are insulators, after all.

Bolt would probably just arc from the car to the ground, like a plane.

Actually, they are. Some quite clever engineering went into it, but basically cars kept building up static charges, and this occasionally lead to sparks when something that was grounded touched the vehicle. Such as a person. Or a gas line.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Yep, older cars have a small grounding strip hanging somewhere near the rear bumper, modern cars have the grounding incorporated with some clever engineering.

Slapped a fly out with a newspaper, fed it to one of the pitchers of the Nepenthes

Put a torch to the pitcher to see what was going on, to my horror the fly was still alive and was being digested alive

That's still pretty mild compared to Ichneumonidae. The larvae of this wasp family eat the host they were injected into alive, slowly, over a period of days to weeks.

eHHH, pitcher plants rank top of that list for me. Besides looking weird and bulgy, the whole digesting things alive[The idea of which disturbs me like few others can], makes them one of the reasons I'm glad I live in a cold climate.

What's the infection rate/average age of first infection of parasitic worms in people? I've heard that most people get one by the time they're six, but I failed to find a source.

I just realized that I can't remember the last time I was seriously hit in the nuts. I've been grazed and had near-misses, but I can't recall ever getting a direct hit, except for the fact that it happened in the distant past. Now I'm terrified there's some Grim Reaper-like figure somewhere in the void, flipping a coin, waiting until it comes up heads so he can send an agent to hit me square in the nuts.

It is. The worst pain. I'm never silent when it happens, though. I usually just loudly swear.
