Nah, it's like the teacher's trick to never losing students - "put your hand up if you're not here".

That's how my public school lost children on field trips. It actually happened pretty often.

I think I came perilously close to passing out a couple minutes ago.  Yikes.

After standing up, or otherwise changing your position? If so, make sure you're hydrating, make sure you're getting your electrolytes, and if you're well enough, try to move around a little occasionally. Staying sedentary tends to exacerbate that kind of thing.

Standing up, yes.  I'm going to do that.

Thanks for the advice.

I know how it feels. If pretty much anything happens that screws with my blood pressure, I start to get really prone to blacking out and waking up in unfamilar positions with only a garbled idea of how I got there.

The hallucinations on the way down are a lot of fun though. :P

I used to get light headed a lot too...  I was eating a lot of greens and TVP instead of anything with much calories (except when exercising), and almost no sodium.  I actually collapsed a couple times from standing up too fast.  I'm not exactly sure how often because I never remembered falling, just finding myself on the ground dazed and dopey.

Anyway eating salt (or potassium, like in salt-substitutes) seemed to help.  Balanced diet cleared it up.  Eventually I went overboard in the calorie department, but moderation is tough.

For you it's probably just temporary from the illness, I hope you get better soon ):

Salt is really important for your nervous system. It's weird that people think it's bad at try to cut it out of their diet.

If Internet salt affected our bodies the same way as real salt we'd probably all be mummified by now.

Mineral water is an easy way for keeping one's salt/water balance right. Since it contains both, the body will take what it needs and expel the rest in urine. It's expensive and doesn't replace a balanced diet, though.

Certain salts, if you ever live in a landlocked country or a country that doesn't get much fish / grows their food in low-iodine soils often you might notice salt shaker with labels clarifying whether they are a source of iodine or not, as some salts have no iodine and no iodine can stunt your growth or kill you.

Morton salt here in the USA clearly advertises "This salt supplies iodine, a necessary nutrient".  Even the sea-salt variant.  I'm not sure whether grocery stores typically sell iodine-free salt.  Oh well I guess we'll have to live without goiters (but vulnerable to the illuminati broadcasts (or was that flouride, eh probably both)).

You're mistaking mineral water with isotonic drinks
