It's as though half my sleepy posts seem to lose their relevance by the time I finish typing them, but after going to all the effort I post 'em anyway.

Anyway, one thing that honest-to-God terrifies me is the direction music has taken. Consider Franz Ferdinand. They used to stand out for using actual guitars and drums etc when all the other bands were ditching those for synthesizers. They made rock-pop cool again and now they've nearly died away.

Well, there's not really much point in using "real" instruments when a synth sounds mostly the same. Other than authenticity points, at least, which isn't a big appeal in regard to pop music.

I know I can tell the difference between someone actually playing and a sampled thing.

Not to say that either are necessarily bad, but there is a difference.

Although II did say 'mostly'. And yes, modern pop music is indeed terrible.
