Hey, if you want to throw money at me, I have over 200 pages of poetry to throw at you :P
You should definitely publish it. In a physical book or magazine, not some shitty e-book.
I would be willing to throw (at least a little) money at such a project!

What kind of monster are you?!
Besides, that'd be nowhere near as good as having a physical copy anyway. I already own digital versions of some of the records I mentioned.

Value. People put greater value on a physical object, mainly because data isn't really something you can form a sentimental attachment to.
That's sort of why.
I don't know.

An e-book is something read on a screen. It doesn't give the actual book-reading experience.
E-books are worthless.

Not really?

I didn't have one at the time (still don't, actually), but I bet an e-reader would have come in handy while working over the road. You can't haul about a small library of physical reading material when storage space is at a premium.

It's true that nothing can beat the weight and feel of actual bound paper, but sometimes convenience must take precedence.

Would that be a bound book with one electronic page, or a bound book with about 900 electronic pages, all linking to the same book?

wait how is an e-book shitty but a physical book not i'm confused

Because physical books are the old way of doing things and ebooks are the shiny new tech that them damn millennials use, even though Google Play has allowed me to experience more literature than all the dead trees in the world.

I have twenty or so books in my Play library, the majority of them public domain works. However, public domain works which could be freely available, still cost money if you want a physical copy. And physical books are damn expensive, assuming you want a brand new copy guaranteed to be in good condition.

The Grapes of Wrath was maybe $3 USD and I can read it on anything that has a basic Internet connection, which includes a phone that I carry with me anyway. A physical book that would lose pages, get dog-eared and take up space in my daily kit would be about the same price, for an ethereal feeling of "doing it the right way".

IMHO, physical books are only superior if they're of significant age and thus have an actual connection to the past. If it's a choice between a modern retail paperback and an ebook, I will pick ebook every time.

The physical book is not by far superior.

It is, however, to me far more preferable. It is not proper reading, in my view, if it's only a screen. I just don't connect with the story as well. Not sure why.

Real books are nice to have a few of. Ebooks are extremely convenient.

I found, to be honest, it felt pretty much the same reading the e-ink kindles as it did a book.

So really what it comes down to is "it's new and so it sucks" for most arguments.

There are some actual benefits to physical books - like having a better understanding of the order of events, according to some study I saw - but mostly it's personal preference, which is different to 'it's new and so it sucks'. I don't dislike reading on a Kindle (and I often do, since my ridiculous reading speed makes packing enough books for a holiday impractical), but I prefer a physical book. It's easier to flip back to a previous event, or to find a particular passage later on. It's also a pain for academic reading because it doesn't have consistent page references or anything.

Most arguments I've heard are more along the lines of the sensory benefits a book lends the story. You know, the feel of the pages, the smell, etc. That character is not something an ebook can provide - of course, were we all brought up from a young age on ebooks it would be different probably.

Yeah, my eyesight would be worse as I could turn up the book's brightness to read long into the night. Ebooks are nice because they are cheap, easily obtained, and easily adjusted for each person. I don't like reading them because I read screens too much as it is.
