As a more serious (but still hella weird) answer...

Foxes. Fox cries are hella weird and have been mistaken for people screaming several times.

The description does make it sound a lot like a fox, but it could also have been a (flock of) deer of some sort. Deer animals usually sounds very  little like you would expect them to from that "thin cows on stilts" look.

A split-second power outage might just have corrupted (part of) my main desktop's hard drive. I'm writing this on my laptop as the desktop's running diagnostics. All I can do is hope nothing important was lost.

Update: All I lost was my stats in Microsoft Freecell. Goodbye, 3500+ win streak, but that could have ended worse.

When it comes to public toilets, I tend to lift the lid and seatup, squat and basically hover an inch or two over it. Like hell I'm catching legionairre's from a sodding toilet.

You get legionnaire's disease from inhaling droplets of (usually warm/stale) water in the air. You should be fine unless you stick your head in the toilet and splash the water with your hands. If legionellas even live in the toilet - might not be warm and stale enough, plus it gets circulated a lot. A fountain in a lobby is much more likely to fuck you up with that particular illness, good sir, but at least you'll be stricken with style in that case.

Also I'm sure there's a whole bunch of other amusing things you can catch from a public toilet, but none of them ought to be too bad unless you're not a fan of washing your hands as far as I know. Even WebMD says it's okay, and they're all about telling you how you've got an incurable ailment that will probably kill you in the near future if you don't seek medical help. And it's not a fluke either, because they tell you to quickly run away once you flush, so they're in top form as usual.

First thing that came to mind to encapsulate the spirit of strange abominations of science, chemical concoctions, and letting random creatures loose in the woods. :v

Also I was reading Girl Genius a few weeks back so that probably got involved too.

Wouldn't a generic mad scientist be sufficient for that?

Just finished watching V/H/S/2. I thought I'd never ever find a POV film that I'd like, a horror film that'd thrill me, scare me and horrify me, nor would I expect a found footage film of all things to be that tense. It's a bit like cabin in the woods, where it is basically all the horror films. You got your two protagonists who have found some VHS tapes...

...And while one of them is rummaging through the flat to make sure they're alone, the other watches the tape. The film then splits to each VHS tape with the jarring low quality transition anyone once familiar with VHS tapes would recognize. Cue going through every horror story ever. You got your spooky ghost story, your spooky zombie story, your spooky cult story, spooky aliums story and the finale, which they've been foreshadowing in every scene. Unbelievably, every single one is unsettling, terrifying or horrifying in some way. Sometimes you're not even sure you've seen what you've seen, and the more you think about it the worse it gets...

And it's fucking gorgeous. Every single POV shot isn't shaky cam extraordinaire. The logic behind shaky cam is that you don't see the monster therefore it's scarier, but shaky cam is just fucking annoying. No, the writers find ways to make the POV be close and intimate. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, NOT SHAKY CAM. The first POV is from some guy who has had an eye transplant (robotic one) and it is great. He begins to see things he shouldn't be able to see. The second one is from a cyclist with a head cam and it is great. He finds zombies. They find him delicious. As the clips go on they become more varied, with CCTV, dog cams and hidden cams involved. Some reporters try to deliver a fair and impartial report on a controversial "Heaven's Gate" cult. Some kids want to film each other dicking around and pulling pranks as their parents leave for a brief while, and they find they're not alone. All through it you feel their fears through their eyes. The movie is possessed of a dark humour that knows when to be present and when to make you forsake life. The epitome has to be when (and this is a big spoiler), the fucking zombie short of all things does something new with the zombie genre. It's from the POV of a cyclist who gets bit, and becomes a zombie. There's this incredibly gruesome scene where he gets hungry and begins eating some poor bloke (who isn't dead yet). Another zombie shows up and joins him in his feast, until the guy they're eating gets back up and the look of their confused zombie faces is priceless.

But by the end of it it really is horrifying... Because the zombie protagonist sees his own reflection. The horrifying thing is that there's enough humanity and sapience inside him to realize the monster he has become. I won't say more. The spooky ghost one also does this well with the subliminal horror (with blinking done right) with a bit of racy comedy that gets dark really quickly. The cult short is fucking unsettling, where it's basically Aum Shyrinko and Jonestown combined with a dash of Satan. Aliums get props for actually being OH GOD WHAT HOW ARE ALIUMS SCARY when something that silly should not be that fucking scary.
The ending's ok. Honestly though, it was about the journey. The lead up to the ending was worth more than the ending, and I think that's the point.
