I ate a thing of microwave sweet and sour rice.

After, I absently checked the use by date.

November 2010.

Gods have mercy upon me.
Was this thing frozen, or what?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

oh, no.
Packaged.

There was the foil packet of rice and the foil packet of sauce, mix the two together in the paper pot it came in, microwave for two minutes, eat.

It's just been sitting in a cupboard for presumably over half a decade.

Well, assuming it was properly sterilized, dessicated, and the packaging was airtight, then it's probably just as safe as it had been in 2010.

Afterall, you're still here to explain to us what you did, right? Rice isn't that patient, usually.

Figure I might top it up and see how long the thing keeps going.

in some cases after prolonged exposure to the grids, the effect can last up to three and a half months
Heard some guy watched it for ten minutes, and after five years it still is working. For me it cleared up already, but sometimes it flashes vibrant green for a split second. Kinda unsettling.

Giglamesh, don't worry about it, I ate instant noodles two years too late and I was perfectly fine.

For those who didn't know about this effect: Here is an image that appears to have colors after you look at "trigger" images.

Can confirm that it's still going three and a half hours later. Pretty cool stuff.

But it has colors! The horizontal stripes are green, and the verticals are pink. I didn't look at any trigger images or anything either.

I think McD meant that's what the smaller grid looks like when you have been staring at the coloured gratings.

This is word for word what I'd post if you hadn't first.

Of course. It appears to be pink and green while it's actually black and white.

So the one you have posted is actually colored, and it's not just my brain screwing with me, right?

I just saved the image and there are color outlines around the black bars, green for the horizontal and pink for the vertical, even in thumbnail, so either you posted the wrong image, or someone is playing a joke.  I even zoomed in to max resolution, there are green and pink pixels around the bars.

I ate 40 or so year old food... Vietnam era MREs
They weren't bad at all except for the well aged pound cake. Smelled really good and looked nice but only a couple minutes out of package it began to show it's age as the oxygen got to it. It turned brown and started to smell. It also tasted terrible(tasted before it looked bad)
