Haha, I have fond memories of hunting cockroaches in the night of Malaysia. Never felt prouder than the moment where I found a whole hive of baby roaches in the chopstick pile and had them all sterilized by boiling water before everyone died of roach dysentery or something.

If I go to China, I want to try the scorpions on sticks I've seen. I wonder what they taste like...? Crunchy, probably.

I've personally eaten scorpion in China. Tastes like the crunchy part of a soft shell crab

is roach dysentery a real thing?

Also, how did baby cockroaches (that sounds kind of cute) manage to hide in a chopsticks pile, seems like those would get moved regularly.

Baby scorpions being cute is definitely a real thing.

I mean, look at the thing. It's so tiny.

Probably not, you'd just most likely just get a lucky dip of parasites. You probably wouldn't notice or show symptoms, but it's generally never good to risk catching tropical parasites.

The roaches only come out at night; all the places you would swear are clean and devoid of life by day by night have roaches as big as your thumb scurrying about as if they appeared from thin air. Same story with the baby roaches, I never saw a single one in the day baby or otherwise, but the night was a whole different world.

If there's cockroaches there it's not clean. They are valiant warriors of eating things that are left around, so should be a pretty good indicator. Also they compulsively clean themselves so really overall in terms of hygiene are at worst a warning sign and at best help with eating particularly problematic waste.

actually they are very clean but they leave behind detritus and feces that makes the surrounding significantly less clean.

Which is why you have spiders to clean up the roaches and lizards to clean up the spiders and snakes to clean up the lizards. If snakes accumulate then you have to clean them up yourself, but that rarely happens.

Termites are also endgame.

aww you got to meet their cousins we have down here. Palmetto bugs..

Also I used to play with june bugs as a kid, loved them.
As long as it's just  a picture I'm fine. I can visit the hissing cockroaches at the museum of nature (guess I HAVE technicall met a cockroach), as long as there's a nice, thick piece of glass between us.

No, I know a guy who says he saw a bear once. All he got was a really blurry photograph, but it looks kind of like what people say bears look like.

I ran in to a baby bear once in the middle of a dirt road, on the way to my friends burial. We were in a jeep, which had the doors/roof/sides off, and I was sure mama bear was going to drop out of a tree in to the jeep and eat us all. The driver slammed it in reverse and got the hell out of dodge.

Aaaand I just discovered a pretty huge hole in my upper left wisdom tooth. It's started hurting. I'll call the doctor first thing in the morning, but I'm afraid about what he'll (have to) do...
