and if you can't see how seeing a rather two bright spots of yellow/white next to each other coming closer can be mentally equaled with an incoming car so you can do something to not walk right into its path then i can't help you much

It's not just for pedestrians, it's for other vehicles too. Believe it or not, a car with no running lights on (basically at least here all cars need at least running lights, which are just dimmer headlights) can be really difficult to see even in broad daylight, especially with sun and other factors in.

On a terrifying note, I'm not even 30 yet and this forum is starting to make me feel old.

I understand it at night or when it's foggy, but for the love of all things, how can you miss a car coming at you in broad daylight unless you're nearly blind?

I mean, if you weren't paying attention, you'd miss the headlights, too.

For some colours of car, having your headlights on at all times is useful, just as a split-second recognition factor for others; where they glance in your direction and slightly more instantly know that 'yes, this is something I need to be aware of.'

I took off my jacket and dropped it onto my stereo (to keep it off the floor), then stepped over the stuff on my floor to walk towards the laptop- when suddenly there's this strange burst of noise. I was completely confused for a moment, this fuzzy, loud, unrecognizable sound coming from somewhere- my first (coherent) thought was that my phone was ringing or had just received a text, but even as I looked for that I realised that wasn't it.

I quickly ran back into my "room" and hit the pause button on my stereo, then unplugged it just to be safe.
Somehow a lightweight denim jacket had been enough to press the 'radio' button on the stereo. O.o This was past 1AM in the morning, by the way. At least it wasn't turned up too loud, I would have freaked out.

I really wish I could get over my apprehension about playing loud music altogether, but that's another story.

The thing is I want to be an inconsiderate cunt, I'm just too much of a wuss to do it.

Then I could yell back at them! Besides, it's unlikely anyone would do that unless I was playing music at, say, 2AM in the morning or w/e.
I get incredibly nervous when I'm doing anything noisy... I think it's because of how deaf I am, I never know how loud things might be to other people. That's the main cause of the problem.

Personally I would first ask you to keep it down, then if you persisted in being inconsiderate I would call the police on you with a noise complaint.

Feel free to yell at the cops if you think it would help *shrug*

Fortunately it's perfectly legal here to play loud music within certain hours.
I'm assuming there are limits to said law, but I doubt my regular-sized, perfectly normal stereo would be capable of breaking them.
