... If your penis looks like an airplane, you should probably talk to a doctor about it.
And phallic coal stacks and levers are fine though? It's all metaphors, metaphorical dicks everywhere.

Come with me, kids, we'll all go on an adventure to Uncle Iron's Magical Phallus Palace.

There were a few highly unusual fluttering sounds about half an hour ago. I still have not determined the source.

Tin Foil Hat Time: Would it be possible for a governing body to introduce a large amount of retro-viruses into the water supply to genetically alter the populace at large?
Not really. The body develops an immunity to retroviruses after a bit, so they'd have to keep switching it, AND the retroviruses are only successful a small amount of the time. AND the genetic information inserted tends to disappear after a few weeks, IIRC.

Furthermore, good luck getting those viruses to survive the stomach's acid in a reasonable amount of numbers.

Aaaand greatorder gets the cookie.

The way genetic modification is done is that you take the actual gene A you want to insert, but you also use another one B, which acts like an identifier - traditionally, by introducing a resistance to something, although it's being phased out.

Then you dump it all in a retrovirus, let it do its magic and then, if the gene A gets into the cell, so does gene B. You then dump the resulting cells into whatever thing you gave the modified the resistance to, and so only the modified ones survive.

The efficiency of that varies depending on many things, but it tends to be in single digits more often than not. And THEN the cell might lose the gene anyway after a while.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.
