In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Probably because it's not obviously wrong. So it's just a dude solemnly judging you.

I used to have a set of tiled transparent animated gifs, with moving patterns that would fill the screen; you stack a few of them on top of each other, and go mad.

Always fun when your heart decides that it's going to run at thrice normal speed for a couple of seconds, for no apparent reason. And then repeat it a couple of times.

At least it's stabilised now.

Go see a GP or your equivalent doc, could be something odd going on with your heart.

Anyone else remember that old movie, Mask?  That kid's face has nothing on mine, right now.  Damn, but a quadruple wisdom tooth extraction causes some mad swelling of the jaw.

That one would be son of the mask, more accurately titled a total piece of arse. The mask was much better.

I just cracked my neck so hard that I lost feeling in my legs for a split second. Power's back on, and that actually happens more than I'd like to admit, but damn, it's kinda scary.

I terrify people all the time with my neck cracking.  I twitch my head in one direction, then the other, action hero-style, and it's really loud sometimes.

What's really scary is when you have those machine-gun pops up your spine and the same thing happens. That happens to me about three times a week (largely due to piss-poor ergonomics at work (when 20% of your workforce has developed FMLA-level back problems in the last year, and the pace is accelerating, it is time to rethink your workflow)) and more than once I thought that I had done serious damage to myself.
