In a sense a broken leg was what killed my grandmother. (Basic story was she fell, and then her body just didn't heal and kept getting worse and worse until eventually she died). On the exceptionally old simple things like a broken bone can become life-threatening due to the body just being unable to procure the energy needed to fix the damage done.
