Ah Goosebumps, when I was in elementary school I use to read those until one day I discovered the American/Michigan Chillers series which was like them but for a few years older audience and better written and without the weird twist endings and there was actual continuity that made some of the books crossovers with each other.

I just had a fluorescent lightbulb in my room start flickering and then released a bit of smoke as it burnt out. Turns out that sort of thing happens sometimes when a thing called the ballast fails, as far as I have been able to determine by Googling, so I'm pretty sure I won't be subjected to mercury poisoning.

I just got an x-ray back from the dentist, and I have impacted wisdom teeth. I may need surgery to get them taken out, even though they aren't bothering me.

Experiences vary wildly here.  You hear the horror stories more often than anything else, but it's not always that way.  My procedure was completely painless.  I was eating buffalo wings about 4 hours later with no discomfort.  It was just like they'd never been there.

The inherent problem with anecdotes, like dental horror stories, is that only the people who feel passionate about something, either because it was REALLY GOOD, or REALLY BAD, will mention it.

So you get a distorted idea, unless you just ask every damn person you see their experience. "Oh it was okay." x95, "OH GOD IT WAS TERRIBLE." x3, "BEST DAMN DENTIST" x2 is a lot different than just 3 people telling you it was terrible, and 2 people saying it was great. 3% and 2% versus 60% and 40%~

I've heard of a guy who lost a leg, trying to get his wisdom teeth removed.
Just so you know.

I had an impacted wisdom tooth surgically removed a long time ago. I don't remember it being very terrifying. Still have both legs, too.

Almost everyone on my father's side of the family has had impacted wisdom teeth, and have had to get surgery.

I'm afraid that I'm going to come out of the anesthetic early, or that it works enough to paralyze me but not enough to make me numb or go to sleep, which has happened to my dad and my aunt. Or that they botch it somehow and end up removing teeth that were otherwise fine and screw my gumline up, which also happened to my dad.

And I won't be covered by insurance when it comes time to get it done.

I just had local anesthesia BTW. One advantage of that is that in long procedures you could signal should it start to wear off, and you'd get a new shot. (Which has not happened to me, but is what makes me prefer local anesthesia over a full one.)
We fortunately have a healthcare system, so it didn't cost me anything.

I went in for my wisdom teeth extraction at 26 or something. Dude had to saw a couple of them apart. Local is enough; I didn't go under and the most unpleasant thing was the smell of burning tooth and the feeling of wet bark breaking as he pulled em out.

Do pay attention to your teeth afterward though, following all their instructions. You don't want to get your gumholes all infected.

Taken at 2:30pm on a bright, sunny summer day.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yep. It was that smoggy from the fires in my state. Looking out toward the grasslands near my uni.

Yeah, when they took out my wisdom teeth, one of them was bad enough that it had to be sawn off. I can't much about the smell because my sense of smell is basically dead, but it did feel odd.
And yes, pay lots of care to them.

What does ice have to do with the power? Do the kilowatts freeze?

Severe icing can bring down powerlines and cause all sorts of problems. There was actually a winter storm warning sent out to all drivers today, telling drivers in effected areas to seek safe havens at once.
