He hasn't got vampire teeth, he's got rabbit teeth.

Not to derail the discussion of terrifyingly sugary cereal, but this caught my eye. :P
He doesn't have rabbit teeth, he has vampire bat teeth.

Because people keep trying to pretend vampire bats are scary and not cute/doofy looking.

It's scary because something so adorable in its own hideous little way is a bloodthristy airborne parasite, like some sort of giant mosquito.

I'll take vampire bats over mosquitos anytime. Fucking mosquitos. Also that bat looks so damn happy.

Wait until bats start carrying malaria.

Can the vampire bats get rabies and give it to humans?

I seem to recall that some do, not sure though.

Bats are one of the more common rabies vectors, but that has very little to do with bats trying to bite people and a lot to do with idiots picking up obviously sick bats off the ground and being bitten by them.

Rabies is a disease of the nervous system, so when bats get it they tend to get really confused and lose the coordination needed to fly. People see a bat flopping on the ground that can't get away from them, pick it up to either get rid of it or help it, and get bitten.

As for vampire bats, their spit is used to save stroke victims, and they're one of the relatively few animals besides humans which show altruism among unrelated individuals. They're pests on livestock, but not really monsters. :P

The prospect of signing up for a Mafia game.
Don't get me wrong I do really want to, but there are so many ways I could fuck up and make the game really unfun.

Not nearly as much as you think.

What do you think I think? None of the ways I'm thinking of seem particularly infeasible to me.

I'm thinking mostly of saying things that end up making people want to lynch you.

No, that's actually one of the less-bad ones. That would drop me out of the game but not affect other people very much.
I'll type out a quick list of what I've thought of in the past half hour or so:

Assigned townie:
  • Fail to be active enough and get lynched on day one. Not a particularly bad thing, to be honest, no worse than any other townie getting lynched. Just a waste of time for everybody else.
  • A worse variant of the above is that I say something damning right at the start of day one and everyone votes for me with no further discourse. This puts day 2 as essentially day one (nothing to go off) but down two townies (me+NK)
  • Be a shitty townie and generally make baseless accusations or break etiquette or be rude or do something else that only winds people up without contributing anything.

Assigned mafia:
  • Slip up, get mafia revealed immediately, two day game, nothing really happens
  • Do very little, coast to victory by luck, nothing happens again
  • Kill the interesting players, game gets boring due to nothing happening

General:
  • Fail to learn and be a burden to everybody else
  • Not participate enough because of timezones  (or whatever other weak excuse I come up with) and effectively have the game be sans one player
  • Break rules and be a fuckup

And then let's not forget the things I could do that affect more than just how fun the game is, like if I turn out to be so incredibly unfun to play with that nobody really wants to have me in a mafia game with them? Yes I know this is getting into paranoid rambling territory, but this is the 'terrified' thread, not the 'rational thinking' thread.

Yes. A girl named Jenna Giese is a confirmed person to have been infected by a bat bite.

She developed rabies without vaccination, but survived.

Doesn't that involve, if memory serves without following the link, putting them in an induced coma and using arsenic to kill the rabies? Something like that.

Anyway: best part about Australian bats is that they don't carry rabies.

Just Lyssavirus, which is just as bad.

Not arsenic, just a constant dosage of every high-yield antiviral medication they can get their hands on. Neurological damage is so likely as to be expected, but when the alternative is almost certain death...

What I'm wondering is if the survivors of the Milwaukee Protocol have immunity to rabies afterwards. I guess none of them would exactly be willing to check.
