Laptop just BSOD'd hard. Tried to restart on its own and gave me some message about stuff being disconnected. I shut it down again and it seems to be working for now, but the fact that it failed so badly in the first place can't be good.

Do you happen to have other devices connected to your portable computational device via USB cables? If so, there is no reason for worry, as they have various unpleasant tendencies such as causing the issues you are witnessing in portable computational devices.

...well then, I'm not exactly sure yet experience points towards the system usually not even having time to fail properly if BIOS is randomly disconnected. It's a chip. Really hard to randomly dislodge.

You might want to try running sfc /scannow in command prompt? That command will scan your Wiindows installation for any corrupted files just in case. If it doesn't fix the problem, it might be your hardware acting up, but let's hope this is a drivers issue or somesuch.

That happened to me once, though portable devices weren't involved. I PANICRESTARTED my comp and everything was fine from then on.
