It ends up like this:

"YOU DIDN'T INSTANTLY REALIZE I WAS PISSED OFF EVEN THOUGH I'VE GIVEN NO CUES TO INDICATE THAT I AM IN FACT QUITE UPSET! YOU DON'T REALLY LOVE ME WE MUST BREAK UP IMMEDIATELY!"
Hence why you should ask 'is everything alright?' at even the slightest hint of them being upset.

It won't work. She will still get pissed that you cannot guess what IS wrong. In fact, in situations like that it doesn't matter what you do, since her getting pissed off is not about what you did or didn't do, it's about her needing an excuse to be pissed off at someone.

Pick up the nearest pet, put it on her lap, and say 'Shout at that, instead'

That's animal cruelty. Just leave. Take the pets and go. Find a normal human being to enter into an emotional/physical relationship with that isn't going to be a psychopath. :P

Wait, we're psychopaths now? I thought insanity was the in thing. If we've moved on to psychopathy, I might have to pack up my bags; that's a whole different kind of crazy.

Thecard: What if you just went and visited? Brought coffee, or tea, or ice cream, or something, and told her that you want to catch up? Even if your concern for her depression is your motive, you don't have to bring it up, and I've a hunch that, if she's alone and depressed, she would appreciate someone reaching out to her, even if seemingly at random.

That kind of intuitive reactions might not work with depression. Someone who is depressed is not just very sad, it's their mind turning onto them. Although if you know she is depressed, it might be just prolonged sadness. It's a bit of a crapshoot, it might make her feel better, worse, or do nothing at all.

I don't know where she lives. I want to text her, but I don't have her number*. Also, many of her friends have already tried texting, and she probably knows them better anyways.

*I'm not good at social interaction. I'm still learning how to get close with people.

But I do have experience with depression. I'm not an expert, but I've known a fair share of it.

In my experience in handing pets to my sisters, I've learned three things:

1: Cats are much more aerodynamic than you think, and actually make fairly decent projectiles.

2: They also make pretty good alarm clocks. Especially when your sister manages to somehow sneak one under your pillow while you sleep.

3: They will find a way to turn your own pets against you, whether by hiding treats in your pocket or by locking them in your room, they will find a way.

E: found gif. Is somewhat relevant.

How DID she manage to make you get the hint?
"God, you are so dumb." *pulls into a smooch*
Check for boom mikes, you may be in a movie.
She /did/ say I should watch more romantic movies so I know what to do.

Not sure if good thing.
I feel tempted to start the whole 'She wants the D' thing again.
Well in this case she does want the D.

Anyway, I was just slow to get the hint that she was completely into me. Once the ice was broken, it just kinda spiraled out from there and this is really now the wrong thread for this.

Confirmation Bias. You fit the bill of the type who a more assertive female has to make the move on, and since other people who gave you a hint presumably got frustrated with you and gave up, obviously you would only notice when someone goes for it. Hell, the only way it was going to happen was a movie-esque scenario.

I'm lonely and so therefore spend a lot of time dedicated to teasing out the science of my loneliness, so trust me on this.

Probably this. While I was totally into her, I had no idea when would be appropriate to make the moves on her, or what moves to make.

"Hey, you're cute. Wanna go out?"

That's... a pretty basic move for finding out if someone is interested.

And if they're not interested, sucks to be you?

It occurs to me that one day in Dwarf Fortress you may actually end up *maced* if you talk to the wrong dwarf like that.
