so many things in my life over the next ten years could ruin me

what if I don't get into university? what if I DO?! what if I fail at my dream studies? what if I can't pay for it? what if I can't get a job doing it? What if I don't have what it takes to do the research?

Then try again or do something else. Or try hard enough that it isn't an issue. But sitting around worrying about things that you by definition cannot effect as they are in the future definitely isn't going to help.

Vice's new TV show...

14 year old suicide bombers and 8 year olds carrying RPGs. This world is fucked up.

Also, you don't want to watch past 12 minutes if your squeamish. They have some videos of bombers after they did it.

That show looks fascinating, actually...  Quite the courageous crew filming it.

Perhaps the strangest thing about it is that it managed to capture that "two dudes with a camera" vibe. Maybe it was the way the host spoke? In any case, it was incredibly eerie during that sequence at the militia camp with all the children where the older man was cheerfully talking about how kids made for great soldiers because they don't really understand that war isn't a game.

See that didn't really shock me at all.  The part that shocked me was that the guy was so matter of fact and friendly talking about it.  Like that's not something I would imagine a leading figure in such an organization being willing to plainly admit to western media.  I found that surreal.  And I was very impressed with the host's ability to present himself as completely non-judgmental, which probably went a very long way in making that happen.  That and some payment off-camera, I imagine.

That's what I was saying, that he was open and honest about it, without any apparent concerns. I don't recall ever seeing an interview regarding a similar topic with a tone even remotely close to this one.

So, celestial objects (planets, moons, etc) make "sounds". A lot of them sound kinda cool, or seem similar to those soundtracks of ocean waves and wind or whatever.

And then there's Mercury. Sleep tight!

(A decent set of headphones is recommended for both videos)

Massive pressure on me lately to launch my damn career already coming at me from multiple angles.  There's the fact that my current job has reached new heights of unbearable and insecure (as I've ranted about plenty already).  Now my wife is graduating in a month and will have to start making student loan payments soon.  So she's going to have to get a job, because my income alone won't cover that.  Once she has a job, she's not going to want to quit and start over again if I find employment that requires us to move, which it probably will since there's almost zero opportunity in Indiana.  Plus, it would be best to move over the summer while the kids aren't in school, which requires us knowing by mid-June at the latest so we can give our landlord two month's notice.  So it's all coming down to "find a job doing 3d in the next two months or your prospects are likely forfeit for unknown years to come."

And I'm so not ready.  I mean... I am... but not in the ways that count.  I had drifted away from art for a couple years because of life issues and despair.  Then Rapture came along and gave me a glimmer of hope.  In the past year I've produced a bunch of work and feel like I'm at a professional level now.  I've made stuff that looks like it would fit right into a AAA game title.  But it's all under NDA.  I can't showcase any of it in an online portfolio.  I haven't made a portfolio piece since 2008.  And Rapture isn't likely to turn into a paying gig anytime soon.  There's going to be a Kickstarter soon and we recently learned the state is offering grant money to media start-ups, but I don't have much faith in either of those things.  I feel horrible for leaving them after they pulled me out of my slump and made me an indispensable member of their team, but I don't really have a choice right now.

So I have about two months to make at least two killer pieces and catch an employer's interest with them.  I've been so wound up over this lately that I can't sleep... except when I'm at work...  ugh.

I get the feeling I've heard that as audio distortion on Marble Hornets. Slenderman, get off of Mercury. There is nobody there. Yet.
