I appreciate them for their creativity.  Not one has ever given me a chill.
+1
For me it's the exact opposite way around.  I can appreciate Creepypasta, but it has never given be a chill.
With Creepypasta, and the way it's done, it's like "Meh, this is every thing I've seen before in other media." But witht he manner in which SCP is done, it is much more immersive, as I haven't seen it before.

I like both. Creepypasta is where everything is doubt and no-one is sure if they've just gone mad or if something really is going on, while the SCP Foundation just lists out the facts they know and the facts are freaky as shit.

I like the SCP wiki over creepypasta because I think it distills what's creepy about it into just the scariest bits. Creepypasta always wastes hundreds of words on talking about how the narrator went on with their day all normally, kind of feeling like something bad was going to happen but not yet, and I'm like dude, who cares.

Creepypasta is all about trying (and almost always failing) to get the reader to identify with the narrator, while the SCP wiki just shoves what's creepy right at you and makes you think of it through your own perception, not filtered out through some other guy's story.

Well, I personally like the fact that Creepypasta tries to get you to think the whole thing's normal and build it up rather then just dishing it out like... well, pasta, but I can agree with you on the point that sometimes they spend too much time talking about it. The narrator's not meant to be the protagonist who wins the day or dies trying, he's just a normal guy who's thrown into horrible bizarre shit. Think of creepypasta as the SCP Foundation from the point of view of people who just find the SCPs by accident.

If I just happened upon a creepypasta then that would probably work, but I've never started reading one without knowing it's a creepypasta. And that pretty much kills any attempt to convince me it's normal.

It's not that it's tricking you into thinking it's normal, it's just putting up an obvious facade of normal to make things seem weirder. The SCP Foundation does the same thing, just with clinical and scientific observation instead of "I'm a normal Joe on the internet and here's the weird shit that happened to me last summer".

That's just due to what happened to creepypasta.  The way I understand it, there used to be various horror stories that circulated around the internet in a slow, viral fashion, in a style very reminiscent of urban legends.  Over time these stories became recognized as their own thing and archived into what we know as "creepypasta" (so named because viral = copy/paste = copypasta = creepypasta).  So when you go rummaging through a creepypasta archive of your own volition, it's a different experience than one of these stories getting randomly passed on to you from a friend or something.  Now people don't even do that anymore.  They just submit their stories directly to the creepypasta archives.  It's the same as urban legends being creepy until they're actually presented to you as an urban legend.

That's fine and all, but the new ones need to adapt to the new medium. As far as I've seen, they're all still trying to take the form of a story getting passed around in an email when that's never how they're circulated.

So, I'm thinking, just let em become straight up horror stories?

It could take the form of a series of twitter posts, or something.

So to recap, one minute everything was going just great, and the next we have caverns collapsing, firebreathing cave beasts, underground brush fires, a screaming swarm of poltergheists back for revenge, zombies in the corridors, drunken brawls in the dining halls, magma pouring into the caverns, rotting miasma everywhere, insanity, madness, and a flying crocodile heading right towards us!

I've seen such stories in a 4ch-like thread style. It's pretty effective, in where it's actually them talking. :D

Except who would bother to Twitter that sort of thing? It's like the bit in Monty Python & the Holy Grail.

Quote
BROTHER MAYNARD: 'He who is valorous and pure of heart may find the Holy Grail in the aaaaarrrrrrggghhh...'

ARTHUR: What?

BROTHER MAYNARD: 'The Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh...'

BEDEVERE: What's that?

BROTHER MAYNARD: He must have died while carving it.

BEDEVERE: Oh, come on.

BROTHER MAYNARD: That's what it says.

ARTHUR: But if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to carve 'Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh'. He'd just say it.

BROTHER MAYNARD: It's down there carved in stone.

GALAHAD: Perhaps he was dictating.

It's more like Stephen Fry tweeting when he was stuck in a lift, but with more murder.
