Candlejack is a pretty cool guy. He submits posts an
d in doing so lets you know who's been taken. Weep for our friends Sirus and Evf-Dee, taken from us by Szee-Szhay.
Now now, let's not call Szee-Szhay into this, Candlejack's already eno

Reminds me of this
Gawdammit that third image, I didn't expect to scroll down to that. I hate those shock images where you see it and it automatically sends chills up your spine.
Not a shock image so much as uncanny valley.
Look in the second image. There's a bloody handprint on the wall. You can just barely make it out on the first.
Hmm. I'm cynical enough to say that I've been desensitized because to me that is most definitely what is not a shock image. In any case it's simply a red tinted disembodied beckoning hand as shown in the others. Uncanny but not shocking.

So, when my friend was young, he liked scary movies.

After seeing Candyman, wherein if you say 'Candyman' 5 times into a mirror (or other reflection) he'll appear and kill you. I was teasing him by saying 'Candyman' into a mirror. I made it to the 4th 'Candyman' before he was crying and he said "I don't want YOU to die!"... I realized that he was only upset because he cared about me, and I never said 'Candyman' again.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fact that he later spent much time in psychiatric hospitals is just coincidence.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

The joke was that you were (unknowingly?) referencing an even "worse" monster. Unfortunately, you already killed the beast by explaining the joke.

I learned today that the teacher I'm having next year for Pre-Cal makes you memorize the Unit Circle.  And he'll keep testing you on it till you get it correct.  And it's too late to lower my level of math.

I don't really see what's so creepy about creepypasta.  It taste a bit strange, but SCP is far worse.

Just had a wonderful little nightmare involving one of my OCs and what looked like (but wasn't) demonic possession. Possibly creepier-looking. All the creepy-pasta from yesterday probably didn't help (it's not the stories that are disturbing, it's the ideas your imagination might start coming up with in the long, dark hours of the night afterward.) But nevertheless, it was dutifully penned and queued for later embellishment and possible inclusion in the story. But thank the stars I can't draw or I'd be causing myself to shit days afterward.

So to recap, one minute everything was going just great, and the next we have caverns collapsing, firebreathing cave beasts, underground brush fires, a screaming swarm of poltergheists back for revenge, zombies in the corridors, drunken brawls in the dining halls, magma pouring into the caverns, rotting miasma everywhere, insanity, madness, and a flying crocodile heading right towards us!

You can shrug off any horror media if you view it objectively enough.  You have to allow yourself to be sucked into the perspective of the narrator.

I guess the thing about SCP that does it for some people is it's presented in an objective fashion, which is rather unique for the horror genre.  Personally, that makes it completely ineffectual to me.  I appreciate them for their creativity.  Not one has ever given me a chill.
