I ran out of ammo for everything once. The main gun, which happens to be the best gun in the game, the flame thrower, that wierd railgun thingy, all of it. I was stomping on like three necromorphs, praying they'd just frakking die. They finally did, and I sprinted to the upgrade station, utterly horrified.
