All this nightmare talk reminds me of this one I had when I was younger.
I dreamed that dark things with brightly colored eyes were trying to drag me into a section of my room of pitch blackness, and that they were scratching up my legs and just generally fucking my shit up.  Right before they got me in, I awoke.

The thing was, I woke up half under my bed, which had been moved halfway across the fucking room.  I didn't sleep for a while.

Bigass spider on my chest this morning.

Usually, he's perched on the bookshelf, but not this morning

Speaking of nightmares, it's actually been a good while since i had a proper nightmare. That is a good thing. I recall back when i was like 5 years old, i had a nightmare that had me trembling in terror for hours after i woke up. The nightmare itself seems kind of silly now (most of my childhood nightmares do, except one particular one which has left a terrifying imprint in my memory that i'd rather not talk about), but back then it was... Well, a grade A fucking nightmare. Being a wee lad probably didn't help one bit.

Nowadays, any untimely wake-ups not caused by outside sources are usually my pores going batshit insane and covering me with perspiration as a result of an intense dream, though i do get occasional sudden awakenings when a nightmarish face suddenly reveals itself in my minds eye. Like, a grayscale image of a girls face... Whose eyes are empty black sockets/circles. Something about that just freaks the everloving shit out of me, and the worst part is that the image isn't imaginary. See "Black Eyes of Evil" on TVTropes if you're morbidly curious. It's not even that bad in reality (despite what i like to think, it actually takes a bit to genuinely frighten me if it doesn't play on phobias), but it shocked me when it suddenly popped up in my dreamy train of thoughts. Other imaginary and much worse images HAVE popped up, and sometimes i hate my imagination for spawning them. I mean srsly brain, stop thinking of things that are scary!

probably about 5-6 inches across.

Which, for suburbia, is GODZIRRA HUEG

Where I live, that's normal size. Common enough to be considered such.

Gotta love it when you can hear them land when you crush them on a wall or ceiling, or as they walk across your window. Better yet, thinking one is dead, until you wake one up. They blossom like a scary-ass flower.

Sounds like a boring old huntsman. It's the small ones, that live in your shoes at night, that will get you.

Or the tiny brown timid spiders that live in corners.

Its freaking scary when you pull the trigger on a shotgun and it doesn't go off. Its worse when, after a couple of minutes, you pump it and the shell won't come out.

My dad and I had a similar problem. Ours overheated some of the parts near the release and it jammed the pump. It's scary, but it happens a lot. Just bring a toolkit if it keeps happening.

Yeah, grabbed the wrong shell from the table. It had already been fired, I'm surprised I didn't notice the weight difference.

All the things about the slenderman and other monsters living in the darkness used to scare me, but not anymore. Nowaday I think being killed by one of those would be right awesome. Way better than living to old age and slowly dying alone and unloved, and as your organs fail one by one you can rest assured that the only thing you're taking with you in death is your mountain of regrets.

I often wish for some kind of random monster attack to happen, out of the totally selfish and juvenile desire for death or glory absolution.  One of my most frequent styles of daydream is to pick some creature and plan out scenarios for what I would do if one burst into the room at that moment.
