Giant isopods are related to woodlice aren't they? Pretty cool that such a huge insect still exists.

Yea, crustaceans.
The giant isopod is also very deep sea dwelling, where things tend to grow bigger for some reason. It is a shame but the only thing you will find close to such a creature that can survive on land would be the fables coconut crab. But those things are damn impressive on their own.

Well then why do we find the largest creatures above the deep?
Though yes, it is a wonder to find living fossils... And sometimes crocodiles and turtles just don't cut it.

Oxygen and food restrictions limit the total potential size of our deep sea friends. They grow bigger than terrestrial counterparts, until they hit a wall and can't get any bigger. Squid, however, and the odd fish, have found ways around these problems, thus the giant squid, colossal squid, and the king of herrings.

I was doing some research on turtles, for no real reason, and found it heart breaking the rate they they are dying out...

Also, that same thing applies to insects. Give a few spiders a high oxygen environment with plenty of munchies, and you got some preeeeety big creepy crawlies £:

Of course, insects are limited by their pretty crappy respiratory system.

Also, giant oarfish freak me out (the king-of-herrings Max White mentioned). They can get 50 feet long and apparently like to hang vertically in the water for no known reason other than because it's damned creepy.
