I have a phone. Normal phone. It makes calls, sends messages, has an alarm clock and calendar/notes thing.

That's all I need, really v:

I used to be of the "just give me a damn thing that rings and lets me talk to other humans" camp. My ringtone is STILL the sound of a phone ringing.

But I was paying $67 a month for unlimited text, but only 75MB of data and 450 minutes of voice.
Along comes Republic Wireless and offers unlimited EVERYTHING for $40 a month. And now that I work from home and spend a fair amount of time on conference calls (and HP still hasn't sprung for a corporate phone yet), it was totally worth it.

I mean, hell...even if I only use it for the same basic services that I did before, it's STILL $27 a month cheaper.
Had to pay $300 for the phone up front, but there's no contract and it's a pretty spiffy phone.

Flip phone for me. Got a pay as you go plan, because I never use the thing.

I just got a new smartphone. So far it's mostly been a camera and modem.

$10 Tracphone. I barely ever use a phone, and most of the times that I have it on me are also times where it's in danger of falling in a river/onto a steel deck/onto a concrete wharf (from 3 stories up). :/

At some point, I'm probably going to change my ringtone to the Guile theme. Currently, it's a badass guitar solo.

They're having a contest for SCP-2000. I'm scared to look at the entries.

They're all dick jokes.

Re: Phones: I just got a new phone. Pretty good deal, and it's cheaper per month too. Up front was 3-400 dollars though :V 200 of which was a deposit so it's not TOO bad...

Basically, everything Redking just said, works for me.

What's the normal sort of month price for a phone then to make that worthwhile? I guess you'd have to keep it a while before it pays off.

Welp, I'm saving $20 a month. If I drop to the 3G plan (my old phone was 3G-only), I'd save $35 a month. At that rate, the switch would pay for itself in less than a year.

My dumbphone bill is only supposed to be $30, but my provider charges me $8 extra just to have caller-ID. Without it I can't even see the name of the person calling, even if they are in my contact list.

But I hardly use my phone, and this is the cheapest offer I can find, so I'm stuck with it. At least all incoming calls and texts are free.

If you barely use it, why not get a pay-as-you-go? If you use less than $38 dollars a month on it, it's a win, and you don't lose any left over credit at the end of a month.

I'm still on contract for another year, and don't fancy paying to get out of it.
