I actually just discovered Cookie Clicker just a few days ago. I initially thought it was tremendously stupid, and it is, but it has the kind of polish and vague message coupled with a bizarre and morbid behind the scenes story that actually kept me engaged with it long enough to do most of everything with it.
Of course, after a while I just said Fuck It and downloaded an automatic clicking program, setting up my mouse to click that damn cookie 50 times a second right before I left for work, and left it there for 8 hours in order to power through the last things you can build and achieve. Of course, the game is built from the ground up to be a giant time sink, so I'm not anywhere near done with everything. According to it's internal stats I've clicked the cookie 4.5 million times, and I've made +11 Quadrillion Cookies, and to get the last achievement I'll need to make something on the order of ~50 quadrillion more cookies in order to build the last few more buildings I need to get it. It's only taken me three days to get to get every single chievo besides this last one, but this game threatens to take weeks in order to finish up what is literally the very last thing to do.
The terrifying bit is I've willingly subjected myself to this bullshit. Even now I have the stupid thing in another browser, just building up cookies at a rate of 21 billion per second, and that is simply far too slow and there's no sane way of making it faster. fml indeed.
