All the talk in the RAAAAGGEEE thread about nuclear weaponry. The idea that there is enough ordnance on the planet to completely and utterly destroy it if the right people wanted to freaks me out, to be honest. While there are a lot of things you can do to make yourself feel safer, there is really nothing that can be done by an individual about the death bombs lurking underground except go to sleep and pretend they aren't there.
Oh bull. The is not enough nuclear ordinance to wipe out human kind anymore. There
used to be, but the hippies got to it first. Even then the nukes were weaker.
See here. Of course, there are enough to wipe out what we might call the whole of civilization, but humans themselves will continue to live, although conservatively for a while.
We're damned resilient. We've survived stuff from before. Bad stuff. Rocks from space that desolated the Sahara into what it is today.
You could become the president of the USA and promote global nuclear disarmament.
I will work on that. In the meantime, awe and fear.
(Also, I don't think that the U.S. president on his own would be able to come close to eliminating the most of nuclear weaponry, even if he were superhumanly charismatic.)
You underestimate the power of sufficiently high CHA.
You underestimate the power of ex-soviet leaders. You'd have to convince Putin, AND Kim Jong-Un? Obama can't get either to even reduce them.
