I remember watching a web series on Newgrounds of all places called Broken Saints, that had a moment that thoroughly scared the shit out of me so bad it turned me off from the series, which I actually kind of regret cause it was a really good story.
I won't spoil it, but it was at an important, dramatic junction in the series. Shit was getting tense, everybody was being confronted by the big bad in a way where everyone had no clue what was going down. There were a couple of pretty decent jump scares throughout the series so I'm on high alert for them, cause I'm just so susceptible to jumpscares that it's absurd and it's usually at these dramatic points where they get pulled out. So I'm really strung out, trying to mentally and emotionally prepare myself for the jumpscare cause I can just FEEL it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen any damn second now, but every time I'm like "Here it comes!", it doesn't happen and I get a little bit more high strung waiting for it.
The music is gradually getting more tense and more dramatic as the characters talk between themselves, but then out of nowhere there's something revealed that was not expected at all, something grisly and horrifying. The camera rested staring at the floor, but then SLOWLY panned up to show it to me, little by little. Something like this was never alluded to, so I'm trying to grasp what it was, still prepared for the jumpscare that never comes, and as the camera SLOWLY pans up to reveal more of it I finally start to grasp what it is. When it's revealed entirely, and I fully understand what I'm looking at, I'm scared so shitless I just closed out of the window as fast as I could. And that was my last experience with Broken Saints, that memory still sits haunting the back of my imagination, I'll never forget it.
