Just dropped my laptop from almost two metres up onto a wood floor. Holy shit this thing is sturdy and holy shit I just crapped my pants.

I may have to go down to Detroit. But it gets worse, the place I'd have to go has an extremely strict no-weapons policy. I can't even carry a pen knife, much less my leatherman or anything practical for self defense besides my belt. It's like they want people to be easily mugged on their way to and from their building.

This Poll.

Okay, it originally came from Fox News, so divide the number by two. That's still a damn lot of people.

Oddly, this doesn't frighten me at all.
IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY

Yeah, in all seriousness this means nothing. There is no way the American people can ever stand up to their government, peaceful or no, that is what is more sad.

I'm not so sure. Yes, it's much more difficult for armed guerillas to take DC by storm, but crippling the federal government doesn't require you to do that; totalitarianism is mostly exercised through the local bureaucracy. It doesn't matter who the government is on paper; if their tax agents and police officers get killed by vigilantes, they'll have trouble functioning.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Remember, it's all about how you ask the question...

"Would you support an armed rebellion" will elicit a different answer then "Do you want to be part of an armed rebellion?"

I'm going to be on the bus to my new job in about 4 hours. I feel like I'm about to vomit butterflies.

How to stop an armed rebellion in basically any country;
1. Call in the military
2. Initiate martial law

I don't think that anything you can buy could stand up to military hardware.

Apart from military hardware.

Which is readily available. Also, presupposing that none of the military would be on board.

You can actually buy tanks, I believe. If you had enough money, I think you could buy enough for a squad of tanks. I'm not sure if a town with just a police force would stand up to that. Though it is sort of hard to do guerilla warfare with tanks.

Can we take this talk of armed revolution to a new thread? No-one is terrified here; hell, it seems more like some people want an uprising.

I'm more interested in the logistics of such a thing, but okay. What should be the title of it though? "How do you caused an armed uprising in America and succeed"?

Very true. But, let's think about it. If 10% (far less than the 29% suggested in the poll) support an armed rebellion, that's 30 million people.
Now, if just ONE PERCENT of those 30 million are actually willing to physically fight against the government, that's still three hundred thousand armed citizens ready to rise up across the country. If the military intervened on a large scale (which they would), they WOULD kill civilians. This act would only add more and more numbers to the newfound uprising.

Anyway, right. Names.

How about "A Second American Revolution?"

"Armed Uprising in America"?

"The American Empire: Rise and Fall"?

Yes, those are all politically charged. This topic is politically charged.

Maybe we should just make it all theoretical and just ask "How would you start an uprising in this fictional country", then supply it's status that concidentally match up with America's political and military status.

"How many CIA watchlists can one person get themselves on in a lifetime?"
Sounds like a good challenge for Bay12.
