He could have had a flamethrower.
He could be Macready, or maybe he's Doc!

He could have had a flamethrower.
Or a pistol that shoots flamethrowers that shoot more flamethrowers that are permanently on and have infinite amounts of fuel!
Hey guys, stop scaring The Thing! I'm letting it stay with me until it can arrange transport off-planet and it still has a fire phobia.

Horrifying things that popped into my head:

Damnussprite.
(Damara/Cronus Sprite)

The very real possibility that there's L4D Hunter/ Bioshock Crawler Splicer fanfic/art.

Tell it that the fault only lies with itself. If it had been intelligent and invaded one of the many bases in the arctic without flamethrowers, as opposed to the two that DO, it would have taken us all over by now!
It was just trying to prove itself better than the carrot Thing from 1951. I think it succeeded. Besides, it's just going for a while, to assimilate something fireproof, and come back and assimilate everyone.
Except for me; it owes me now.

The thing never stood a chance against humanity. Do you doubt for a moment if it ever reached a city, the local governments wouldn't hesitate to begin indiscriminately incinerating entire populaces? DO YOU? DO YOU DOUBT FOR A MOMENT, THAT SOME BIOLOGICAL WONDER FART COULD WALTZ IN HERE AND UNDO MILLENNIA OF HUMAN IMPERFECTIONS AND TRIUMPHS? THAT WE WOULD RATHER NOT FACE TOTAL PLANETARY DEATH IN MAGNIFICENT GAMMA RAYS AND NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS ?!
Only humanity is allowed to destroy humanity.

*becomes humanity*
In essence, I don't doubt that governments would mass incinerate the populace, but the thing is that The Thing can't have the 'hoomans survive because tuff' card played on it because it IS humanity. Plus, it would be a while before it would be found out, if at all.

The moment a single blood test happens.

That moment.

Bang bang, humanity shot my alien down...

Wait, what happens in a blood test? Do doctors stick hot needles in blood for fun or for practice?

Hmmm. I wonder how an alien like the thing would react when subjected to a blood test.

-There is only one logical outcome to this conundrum, we must capture the thing for science.

Personally I don't think humanity would stand much of a chance if the Thing were an actual threat that invaded society. It's simply far too intelligent. Remember, it doesn't even need to disguise as a human, animals are fine too.

So I guess you're incinerating all the cities AND all the uninhabited forests and such. The moment a Thing is identified, the only way to be sure that it and it's hidden brethren are gone would be to immediately and thoroughly atomize that place and everywhere else in a thousand mile radius with swift and merciless nuclear strikes.

Then again I'm going by John Carpenter's Thing, I've never seen the old version.

Burning animals is fine too.

...We do that today for Khorne corn D:

The moment a Thing is identified, the only way to be sure that it and it's hidden brethren are gone would be to immediately and thoroughly atomize that place and everywhere else in a thousand mile radius with swift and merciless nuclear strikes.
Which is what I'm saying. If it was a legitimate threat to humanity, there would be no reservation of force. Everything kaboom.

In alternate universe somewhere, there is an alium horror film titled "The Human."

I have no doubt; however, the Thing can use technology also and can probably adapt to radiation. Anyhow, if we're to keep discussing this we should go somewhere else, maybe make a thread for it and stop clogging up the terrified thread.
