Suddenly had pain running up and down the middle of my chest from the top of my throat to my stomach. Momentarily panicked before realising it was probably just my eosophagus going and spasming since I'd just swallowed.

The wind is frighteningly strong tonight. It's difficult to sleep when the house is literally shaking underneath you. Maybe living in a rundown old trailer isn't so cool

Only briefly frightening, but a .22 round at the range earlier today failed catastrophically. Blew the entire back off the cartridge, just left a tube of brass in the chamber. Fortunately it did no damage to anything because it is only a .22 and Ruger builds quite tough, but it is very frightening to see somebody pull the trigger and see smoke coming out of the magazine well and around the bolt.

I've only shot an actual gun once, but I'm still paranoid that I'll use one some day and it'll explode. That video where a guy fired a shot with too much powder in it and the gun exploded and shredded his jugular (He survived, he jammed his thumb into the hole and his dad drove him to hospital) didn't help.

Scott was shooting some very dodgy ammunition there, which wasn't helped by a design oversight in the gun he was using - Mark Serbu doesn't seem to understand the concept of fail-safe*. It isn't something you'd encounter using normal commercial ammunition from an ordinary gun.







*He seems to think it means "cannot fail under any circumstances", not "if it fails, it will fail in the least dangerous way possible".

One of the first times I went to an indoor range a pile of casings and target paper a few yards downrange caught fire and for a moment I thought it was going to spread and burn the place down.

Maybe going to a range is the problem, I've never been to one and I've never had any trouble with guns.
