I spent my first full year of my 30s in lockdown . . . honestly, other than officially being Over the Hill and Not Particularly Good-Looking (though let's be real, in the US you hit that at like 21), I've found everything about being older better than being younger. I have more energy, less anxiety, sleep better and have a lot more freedom.

This is the shit I fear that is going to happen more and more often in the future...

A hacker broke into the Oldsmar (Florida) drinking water supply and altered the water treatment system to add 100 times as much lye to it as is usual.

Lye is used in very small amounts to adjust the water's pH-value and to remove calcium from it.
In higher concentration it can cause burns and can be lethal when ingested.

The increase in lye was luckily spotted in time by an employee. According to the police, the drinking water quality was never in danger, because the water treatment facility uses other methods to ensure safety.

Now, why the fuck such system is connected to the internet? I fear the day nuclear hollocaust comes claiming us all because some fuckwit soldier decides to open some shady porn websites on the wrong computer.

Such delicate systems should not be online at all. You can have a different system to monitor parameters that can be online and is read only, and in site lan not connected to the internet in any way or shape to control. Or require insite procedures to allow internet access for a limited time, thats it  if you require support or input over internet, you turn on the switch or connect the cable to allow for it, and aftewards disconect it, but even this is risky.

Also that fucking hacker is a terrorist in my book.

And why it is connected to the internet? Because everything is nowadays.
I wouldn't be surprised if some governments / electricity companies are even dumb enough to have their nuclear power plant control panels hooked up online.

Try finding a politician or CEO who knows wat 'air gap' means. The vast majority is from the generation where people used fax machines carried by horse and carriage. They wouldn't know the difference between a cat5 cable and a dead snake.

If they catch the perpetrator, I hope he/she is US based and not Russian or Chinese.  Trying to poison a water supply... something something Geneva something something NATO something something article 5 something something protocols for retaliating a chemical attack include nuclear strike..
