Today saw the end of the self-governancy of Hongkong.
China broke the deal with the UK by passing the new security law.
Technically, Uk should now invade and recolonize Hongkong

The UK couldn't hold onto HK militarily, how would it be able to invade it? The SCS bases were also not an issue before, so the situation is even less feasible than when there was actually a British garrison present. Such a scenario would in all likelihood need Murrican marines and carrier fleets for sure, and even then the chance of holding onto HK is not great without causing WWIII

Martinuzz did say "technically".  Of course the powers-that-be will back down to avoid war.  That's why China did it.  Simple realpolitik, yeah.

Just shows the value of purely diplomatic promises.  It's frightening how useful the threat of force can be, even if there's no reasonable scenario in which it has to be deployed.  Nuclear weapons and military bases which never saw "use" shaped global politics for decades.  Pretty terrifying.

Legal experts are pointing at Article 38 of this national security law, which states “This Law shall apply to offences under this Law committed against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from outside the Region by a person who is not a permanent resident of the Region.”

Do you know what that means? It means it's trying to claim jurisdiction over literally everyone else.

Recent developments in Austria are certainly concerning. I’m afraid I’ll be striking it off my holiday list. Not that I’d be much of a target for the Reich, but they could technically sting me with that one. I know people with family there too, so definitely concerning.

If Hitler is happy to limit himself to Austria we should be able to avoid a war. What truly terrifies me is that it really is all too easy to imagine him miscalculating the Allies commitment to Poland.
