Currently residing on a tiny, flimsy island of inner calm (and hungover-ness) in the middle of a vast sea of stress and panic.
Bloody hell, I have to move house in just under a week. Feels like I should be panicking a lot more than I am.

If you are not panicking, you can focus your thoughts on the task rather than panic thoughts.

Sudden, loud-ass noise from somewhere in the house just torpedoed the sleep I was finally drifting off into. No idea wtf that was (sounded like some sort of very loud, creaking/twisting wood sound or maybe some frantic tapping/rattling) but now that the initial shock has worn off I don't particularly care.
Still curious, though. As far as I'm aware everyone else is also in...

Oh, okay, it just happened again - but it was a little less terrifying this time since I was already awake. I think it was the pipes, they rattle sometimes if a tap isn't turned off tightly enough, but I don't think it's usually anywhere near that loud.

That, or you suffered from a pre-sleep hallucination, like an auditory hypnic jerk.

I've had those before, like starting to fall asleep and then hearing someone loudly shout your name or whatever. One time on an international flight I was just finally dozing off when I heard a balloon popping.

The brain is an incredibly irritating organ.

Or it's a ghoul sneaking up on you to suck out your pancreas. Should probably check in the closet just to be safe.

I sometimes have "brain buzzes" right before falling asleep, jerking me awake.

So, this apparently has its own name/classification separate from hypnic jerks, and they're known as "auditory sleep starts" or "episodic cranial sensory shock".

...or by the entirely more badass name, EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME (which would also be an awesome band name)

Please, we don't do that,  it's a hurtful stereotype. The munchy parts are in the upper spine. And you wrote it wrong.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?
My ship exploded midflight, but all the shrapnel totally landed on Alpha Centauri before anyone else did.  Bow before me world leaders!

Speak for yourself. Personally I think the liver of an alcoholic tastes best but the pancreas is a nice safe bet. Especially when you mush it all up inside before suctioning it out, mmm.

Personally, I think that Souls exist because I hate My brain for everything it’s done to Me and saying that it’s in control feels like admitting defeat.

If I ever go back to EMT school I'm going to start referring to things as "The Munchy Parts" and see how long they let me stay.

I think I might get some nervous laughter for the first few times. I'd give it a couple classes, maybe.

Not long if you don't put some pants on.
