I have a WTF, something I came across on Reddit just before, but I'm not sure if it might be considered NSFL or something.
Since just saying this would be basically teasing and y'all would probably get mad at me for it, I think I will post it anyway, but in a spoiler - and I might even put some content warnings on it, an extraordinary step for someone who thinks such things are highly silly.
Editor's note: I decided the Terrified thread would be a better fit. NOTE: I feel like I should mention that it's entirely possible that this is all a hoax. I saw at least a few posters on Reddit putting forth such a hypothesis - as much as his recent posts seemed to lend credence to the whole thing, at least one person pointed out some inconsistencies that might lead one to believe the whole account was a troll leading up to this.
Let's hope so.
This whole story's kinda depressing, I can't honestly recommend reading it. *shrug*
Came across a cross-post from a subreddit dedicated to Diphenhydramine, which is the active ingredient in drugs like Benadryl, which I have lately learned is a really unpleasant psychedelic(?) when abused. Like, I won't go into detail about this stuff, but most everyone I've seen talk about it agrees that abusing it is a pretty terrible idea.
Anyway, the post in question was from some guy with a very troubled posting history and, apparently, lifelong depression.
I didn't actually see the post's content as it had been deleted, but apparently the guy took a well-above-lethal dose of the stuff. He'd also been posting on various suicide-related subreddits (which I didn't know was a thing until today, jeez, that's a wtf in its own right), detailing his intent to top himself, so the lethal dose was hardly accidental. As a sidenote, I saw someone mention that the guy had said his plan was for his mortal remains to go months before being found.
Lots of comments on both posts by freaked-out redditors voicing their hope that he was okay, that somebody had found him in time, that sorta thing.
Now, all of that is very sad, but the real WTF is still to come. One thing that was included in that last post of his (which was wryly titled as a "trip report") was his choice of music, an album he'd placed on repeat to act as a soundtrack to his shuffle from the mortal coil.
As if dying via Benadryl overdose wouldn't already be horrible enough, this guy allegedly did so to the soothing tones of a rather terrifying noise band known as Naked City. Their final album, Absinthe, to be specific.
I don't know if y'all know, but when in the grips of most hallucinogens, music tends to have a strong effect on ones mental state. Hell, even the most innocent of tunes can become a stifling nightmare that has you clawing for the pause button - and from what I've heard of this particular drug, I can only imagine it would be 100 times worse, considering the baseline for its effects is terrifying (and vivid!) hallucinations.
Not only is your body shutting down in real-time as your mind turns itself inside-out trying to tell what's real and what isn't, your mortal terror is accentuated by what's best described as the soundtrack to pure insanity.
As someone said on the reddit thread, "...this dude did everything in his power to make sure he went out in the scariest, most fucked up way possible".
Again, hopefully the whole account was just an elaborate hoax, but I guess there's really no way of knowing otherwise.
Don't do Benadryl, kids. I mean, unless you're using it within the recommended dosage to combat allergies or as a sleep aid, I guess.
