Much less active than I used to be on these forums, but I still visit them on occasion. Will probably resume my activity in full once Dwarf Fortress will be released on Steam.

The game may be rated E, but that box art deserves a T.

It's rated 'E' for 'Existential Dread'.

Edit: oh thank goodness, all is apparently well. Nevermind.
Now I can calm tf down and get some sleep in preparation for the stresses of tomorrow.

OMG me too!
Basically, a friend was rather tardy in responding to my message, the subject of which was a query as to whether she made it home safely after the festivities on Sunday.
I guess I'm a bit of a worrywart, though it surely didn't help that she'd previously commented on how she didn't feel the area was very safe...

My original post on the subject was written rather late at night as I was half asleep (and half worried out of my mind!), so it was rather lacking in coherence, hence why I deleted it.

Although not today, I've given my work (that I've been with for 14 years) notice that I'm leaving in a few months.  I'm planning to start my own (tiny) business.

Its pretty stressful, and I keep randomly getting waves of dread that I'm making a terrible choice and destroying my future.   :o

Hey, at least you're doing something original and adventurous! It won't be boring!

What's the business? Retail? Baking? .... Dwarf Fortress merchandise?

Software for small laboratories.  Its a bit niche, but quite a few times we've had inspectors come into our laboratory tell me that they really wish they had our software at their lab.  I've been spending the last few months working on a more generic version on my own time, and I'm pretty sure I can get the whole system built before the end of the year.

So I'm at the state that I know I can build the software no problem, and I'm sure it would be helpful.  I'm not confident that people are willing to spend the money on it or that I can advertise it well enough to get customers though.   :-X

Still, its going to be nerve racking watching my life savings go down instead of up for a while.

Well, I happen to know a small laboratory up in northern Norway, so that's... At least one whole purchase that they can't budget for!

I live at home because after my dad passed my mom wants me around so she's not living alone and so I can help her with maintaining the house, yard, and computers.  I work late night/early morning so essentially cuz of my work schedule I'm asleep until 2PM or so every day.  She usually gets up around noon or so so she's not typically by herself long.

Today she woke me to tell me she was going to the ER and to listen for the phone.  She drove herself and was already out the door by the time I was up and had pants on to ask her what was wrong.

It's been 3 hours now and I'm starting to worry a lot.  it can't be that bad if she drove herself, but it's a nagging in the back of my head that I should have asked her what ER she was going to.

edit:and almost as if she read my mind she just called to give me a heads up.  Says she coughed up blood so she wanted to go get it checked out, but the normal doctor isn't open today.  Gave me what ER to go to but wants me to stay here since she's expecting a package today that needs signed for.  Still terrified because I made the mistake of looking up webMD, but now at least I know what's going on.

Edit2: Possibly lung cancer.  Likely from smoking most of her life, though she quit 2 years ago.  Need a biopsy to be sure.

Contacted a rental listing, asking about possibly arranging a viewing at some point in the future.

Little while later I get the response: "Tomorrow, 5:30 PM"

So, uh... Welp. Guess I'm doing that.

You jest, but a 2-bedroom apartment in the capital will easily run you $5,000 a month.

Luckily, I am not in the capital. Nor am I looking for a 2-bedroom place. So this 20m2 half-of-a-duplex outside of central is actually a steal at the listed $690 a month. Electric not included, mind.
