My housemates have been a couple for years, and she is of a reasonable height whilst he... well, he makes me look tall by comparison.
Take heart, short folks! Sometimes people do actually get together based on factors other than height and body type!

That joke went right over my head.
That's some real high comedy right there.

That joke went right over my head.
Was that an intentional pun?

I am getting a new second hand couch today, from a friend. One that is not as destroyed by feline claws as my current one is.
So I removed my old couch.
An lo and behold. There's a plant growing inside my house, from down under the foundations, popping up from behind the baseboard.
It must have popped up in just 2 weeks, because that's when I last moved the couch from the wall for cleaning behind it.

It's unrecognisable, it's mostly dead, and didn't get enough light to develop it's primordal leaves into something I can determine.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But I suspect I know what it is. My neighbors 4 houses down the street have this fast growing bush in their front yard. I never bothered to check it out properly. I should have. I checked it out now.

It is Japanese knotweed.

I went ahead and called the city hall, they're sending an expert.

Terriffied now, maybe I will need to evacuate my house while they tear everything down to remove the knotweed infestation.

For those who don't know, japanese knotweed is an invasive exotic species which can grow straight through concrete foundations, and road asphalt. It spreads underground. If it gets under your house foundations, you can kiss your property value goodbye. Luckily, I rent. It's not my house.

EDIT: note that the wall the plant is coming from isn't even next to outdoors, it's the wall in between me and my neighbor.

My problem in so far that if they decide to label it 'uninhabitable' because of knotweed, I am never going to get an equally nice house with garden in return. They'd be obliged to rent me a home 'of equal value', but since I live below the social rental mark (rents up to somehwere about 700 euros per month), that still screws me, because 'equal value' is compared to commercial price development, which social rent development doesn't follow. So I'd get a smaller house, if I'm lucky, of a flat appartment, which would kill my cats.

I keep forgetting that it's safe in Western Europe to let cats outside, while in the Americas you'll get it eaten by something

That doesn't quite make sense. Most of the time, the thing that kills cats is another cat.

And the thing that gets killed by the cat is everything with a heartbeat.

That doesn't quite make sense. Most of the time, the thing that kills cats is another cat.
But in suburbia and rural areas, foxes, bobcats, and birds of prey have also been known to take out pets.

Coyotes are also common in many areas. That said, it very much depends on the size of the cat.

So, if the main killer of cats is other cats, why does anyone think it a good idea to let their cats out unsupervised into an area full of disease carrying feral cats?
