But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

My best and only friend just apparently had a pretty serious asthma attack and can't breathe. She also can't afford to go to the hospital, so she's going to a friend's to use a breathing machine. :/ But Tellemurius said she needs an adrenaline shot first, and I sincerely doubt that's available.

Nah, we don't need any protection. Ours is the planet that will impregnate the stars. :P

Slight misunderstanding there. Yes, Earth is to scale in that photo. However, the distance between Earth and the Sun is NOT. We are much, much further away than the eruption was.

yeah, but if we get a direct hit from a CME, microchips are fucked, electricals probably are, too.
That's like hitting a fly on a dartboard from a mile away.

Earth is quite a small target.

Well, apparently a school shooting happened a few hours ago, and the town it happened in is about 25 miles away. It just made me think "What if it happened in my school?"

I hate morbid thoughts...

Oh, I understand. The context was there when they said "to scale". If such a thing happened at such a distance, we would've been incinerated long ago, and the news being reported in the afterlife.

I was just surprised something like that happened, and at such scale. Imagine a planet being born by being shot out of a geyser from a star. Then again, the trajectory would mean it would likely not happen, or not last very long, or otherwise drift in space alone forever.

EDIT:
Additionally, the raw images didn't have a planet in them.

Hiro just had his third major incident in about 4 1/2 years of being diabetic.  The same as the first two times, I was lucky enough to be in the next room and hear him making weird noises.  I check in, expecting to find him having a nightmare.  Instead I find him staring blankly off into space and weakly convulsing every few seconds.  After some gentle coaxing, he begins eating the glucose tablets I offer him.  He makes eye contact with me, but is otherwise completely unresponsive.  It took probably a dozen tablets before he started becoming more lucid, and even more before he finally gave a nod when I asked if he was ok.

After that, he agrees to eat a sandwich.  When I bring it to him, he voices his first complete thought to me "I feel bad that I'm just laying here while you do all the work."

We talked a bit after his sandwich.  He says the last thing he remembers is watching My Little Pony...

I feel horrible, because I think I gave him the wrong insulin.  He gets two types.  One is a fast-acting strong insulin that he gets after eating.  The other is a slow-acting one that he gets once a night and works at a background level throughout the day.  I think I grabbed the wrong vial.  That nightly shot is a big one, and he was already towards the bottom of his target blood sugar range when he went to sleep.

Goddamn being a parent is terrifying.
