Also I'm pretty sure my dentist just straight up doesn't do sedation ever. I think I asked about that when I first started going and was told it wasn't an option.

You should probably ask Google just what the actual effects of mixing booze and novacaine or whatever are. I'm guessing probably not good.
BFEL's google-fu isn't strong enough to get a clear answer

Going to sleep isnt an option for me either. But thats because Im alergic to laughing gas. Ludicrous amounts of drool everywhere.
And I'm terrified of needles, and once injured a dentist and got banned from his office because I grabbed his wrist out of terror.

I'm still with them. Don't get drunk. Do ask if painkillers 9r sedatives are available,  and if not try to bear the pain with the knowledge that it will hurt less afterwards than if you hadn't had this done at all

Its not even the pain that worries me so much though. The pain isn't horrible with novocaine and such, its just that the whole experience is fucking horrifying. Basically the part of my brain that does nothing but dream up worst case scenarios has been going wild, and will continue to do so throughout, so I really just want it to go away for awhile and leave me alone so I don't have a panic attack while someones digging around my mouth with pointy shit.

Hour and a half till horrortime. Was okay for awhile but kinda freaking out again.

Doesn't actually terrify me per se, but we're getting solid hundred km/h gusts here. Had a massive branch come off a tree ten metres ahead on the road on the way home. No warning, just a straight plummet.

Don't get drunk. It's stupid and might lead to bad things happening.

EG: you don't want to throw up in the middle of the intervention.

I'm surprised you didn't insist in sedation. I mean, it's your body. And quite frankly: I used to be averse to sedation (I've never required any sort of intervention beyond setting a bone 20 years ago), but in the last 4 years I've come to the realization that if you require to undergo a medical procedure (ANY medical procedure, pretty much) it's likely to be unpleasant, so the less aware you are, the better.

Also, stop talking in third person. It's annoying, unless you're Julius Caesar.

BFEL:
Alcohol is a bad idea, but here's what I recommend: listen to a catchy song several times before your appointment, and focus on playing the song in your head rather than what the dentist is doing. You need to keep enough attention on them to hear them speak, but just keep those tunes on and you don't need to think what exactly is going on.

The reason dentists (and most other kinds of doctors) rarely sedate their patients is that even an anxious patient is still more co-operative than an unconscious one. It's a huge advantage to be able to ask where the pain is, give instructions, etc..

LOL.  For what I've seen, the main reason why  sedation is avoided in invasive procedures is a combination of lack of time and lack of experience. I should know. After doing trephines in several asses, I questioned my department's seniors about why we were doing this shitty painful procedure like that, and the replies were on those lines.

Worth noting, I've seen several healthcare professionals undergo the procedure. All of them demanded to be sedated.

Also: if you notice, for the most part the trend is for sedation to be used for more procedures, rather than less. Once upon a time tymphanostomies and colonoscopies were routinedly performed without sedation. AFAIK in my place's ER room they use it in fracture and luxation reductions as well.

WOOOOOO

No surgerying was needed. Turns out it was just "an EXPLOSION of bacteria" doctors words. A week or so of antibiotics and I'll be fine.

I'm surprised you didn't insist in sedation.
The dentist I go to doesn't offer it. As in, they don't have it. At all. Stop asking.
Also this is the dentist my health insurance covers/forces me to take, so yeah.

Agh apparently there are over ten people coming to my house right now.
I've been sitting around playing videogames most of the day, now suddenly I need to change my clothes, pretend to be cool and socialise.
Not to mention I'm sick.

Edit: At least my friend saw fit to give me a heads up about it.

I've been through this before. I should have been used to it by now. But I'm still... shaken that people can turn a total 180 on you at any moment's notice.

It's... horrible.

Getting swamped today. So many grumpy people wanting smokes. This is my only chance at a break. The horde approaches. The other closing shift guy is late, by an hour and a half.
