The job I applied for is running a criminal background check. I know there's nothing to find, but this is something that hasn't been done before, and it worries me a bit anyway.

There's really nothing to worry about. I've had to get a couple of background checks done and there's basically no involvement on your part.

I'm mostly worried about them contacting my previous employers, the local management of one of which was composed of evil and vindictive assholes that kicked me out for fraudulent reasons because they saw me as a threat to their position. I've long suspected (but have no way to prove, else I'd already have launched a slander/libel suit) that my long chain of "abort halfway through the hiring process" was related to the HR of the new place calling them and getting fed bullshit.

Damn man. That sucks.

Nothing's gone wrong yet, and the hiring process is proceeding at breakneck speed. After a second interview next week I may have two hiring managers (same company, different departments) fighting over me, which is nice. Also terrifying, but nice.

First thing that came to mind to encapsulate the spirit of strange abominations of science, chemical concoctions, and letting random creatures loose in the woods. :v
