So apparently there's some shit going in the main area of the University. They got on the loudspeaker system (which is normally reserved for warning people about tornadoes) and said there was a "dangerous situation" on the main campus, luckily on the opposite end of it. That was about 2 hours ago, and apparently it's still closed off. I've been hearing a lot of things, but there is definitely a significant police presence. Not just campus police either, about a dozen Toledo City officers showed up.

Edit: The prevailing story is that a guy was walking around campus with an AR-15 after supposedly stabbing his girlfriend somewhere off-campus. The UT police department evacuated the union and searched it with rifles and dogs, but didn't find anybody. City of Toledo SWAT is currently responding but the fella remains unaccounted for.

Apparently all of that was made up. I just got this text from the University alert system:

No evidence to support report of

Union remains closed until

updates.

It seems the rumor machine is real.

If it was, someone is going to have a lot of explaining to do. The story might have been fake but the police response certainly wasn't.

Serbian Film? or Salo?

It's not just the content of the film, it's how dissonant and disjointed the plot is.

The first-ever showing of A Serbian Film took place on 15 March 2010 at midnight in Austin as part of the 2010 South by Southwest.[4] During the introduction by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's owner Tim League, the audience in the theater was once again warned about the extreme nature of the scenes they were about to see and given one last chance to leave the screening.[5] He also coaxed a handful of audience members to join him on the stage — where they jointly snorted lines of salt, squeezed lime juice into their eyes and took shots of tequila in order to "understand what Serbians have been through to create a culture of A Serbian Film".[6] The following day, the film played once more.

Oh Tim League, you poor, poor naďve man. That barely scratches the surface.

Salo. De Sade was a pretty important philosopher actually, and the film is legendary.

I always found Saló to be one of Pasolini's lesser works, even though its easily the most famous. Its a decent movie if you want to be weirded out and get to know Pasolini's aesthetic and dramatic style, but not the best movie if you're looking for faithful adaptation of De Sade's work, since Pasolini just kept the parts he liked.
