I Need Some Advice on What to Do.

So, I had 16 goblins attack, 15 macemen, 1 lasher on a rat (a seige). It really suprised me. I stationed my soldiers of 17 infront of my gate, and I watched the goblins kill the poor innocent dwarves fishing, then when they reached the gate, I lost 3 of my menI only have 6 soldiers left. , they lost 4. I lost my militia commander, militia captain, 1 axedwarf, and 1 axelord, aswell as many recruits
Then another 6 were trapped in cages
This leaves 6 left, but my civilians are going crazy, seriously.
The 6 left includes 5 macemen and 1 lasher on a giant rat

I dont even know if I should open my bridges, afraid my civilians will pour out and get killed.

Should I open the gate and murder these goblin scum, or wait and regroup?

Clearly, your failure is due to the lack of magma.

Just send the civilians in. They should have been first anyways.

well ive went from 90 dwarves to 31. If these goblins ever leave, I may actually live.

Do they ever leave by theirselves?

Dwarfpile?   I don't know you may already have triggered the cataclysmic !Tantrum Spiral!

 On it is an Image of !Clowns!, The !Clowns! are having !Fun!.

Try building a waterfall or lines of statues, both would be best.  Reorganize your stockpiles, your going to want to wait them out, and happiness should be of your utmost concern.

From what I gather, the answer to any question that starts with "I need some advice on..." is always "Magma." Seriously I don't know why anyone even bothers posting questions. We need a FAQ. It would be pretty small. One word, in fact.

So I just started playing dwarf fortress and I love it, but I need to know how to assign labors.

Well its safe to say I lost. Somehow the rest of the goblins found a way into my fortress, so I lost. :c
